Identify, lead, and implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality. Analyze production data to drive process optimization and yield improvement. Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities. Design New Tooling and Modify Existing Tooling Develop new tooling, fixtures, gauges, and equipment to support production needs and improve ergonomics, safety, and repeatability. Update and improve existing tooling based on performance feedback or process changes. Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks. Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on tooling fabrication and validation. Project Management / Capital Expenditures (CapEx) Lead and support capital and process improvement projects from concept through implementation. Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and documentation. Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution and successful project completion. Manage vendor relationships and procurement processes for equipment purchases. ERP Data Maintenance Create and maintain accurate ERP data including routings, BOMs, work instructions, and manufacturing attributes. Support change management processes to ensure updates are well-documented and communicated. Monitor data integrity and collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies. New Product Development (NPD) Project Support Participate in NPD projects by providing manufacturability input during design phases. Develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and documentation required for new product launches. Support pilot builds, validations, and production ramp-up activities. Ensure smooth transition of new products into full-scale production. A Brief Overview An engineer, with a mechanical engineering foundation, having at least 5 years of experience developing and sustaining regulated electro-mechanical device design and process, to support the Ultherapy medical device product portfolio What You Will Do Design and Development Lead and manage activities related to maintaining and improving electro-mechanical medical device design, manufacturing, and service processes. Participate in reliability studies. Support in troubleshooting activities, investigate the root cause to a successful conclusion, and help to resolve product complaints and CAPA. Prototyping and Testing Conduct research and testing to solve problems. Test functionality, safety, and effectiveness. Develop prototypes and conduct testing to ensure devices meet customer needs, design requirements, and regulatory standards. Collaboration Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, process engineers, quality, and regulatory, to ensure device safety, compliance, compatibility, functionality, manufacturability, and serviceability. Mentor junior engineers. Regulatory Compliance Ensure that device complies with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, CE Mark, IEC 60601 series, ISO 13485, GMP). Documentation Develop detailed mechanical drawings. Documentation of design processes and test results. Execute the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process per Design Controls - Design Change regulations and internal policies. Support regulatory submissions. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline. 3-5 years Mechanical Engineering experience. 3-5 years Related design or development experience in the medical device or other highly regulated industry (e.g., automotive). Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline. Technical & Functional Skills Skilled at using common electronics design tools such as T&M equipment, CAD tools, and simulation (e.g., SolidWorks). Test of electro-mechanical and/or electrical system in a production environment. Ability to articulate complex ideas to technical and non-technical personnel. Strong technical and problem-solving skills. Ability to formulate program strategy, budgets, and timelines. Ability to communicate and write effectively. Emotional self-management in difficult situations. Understanding of process validation and statistical analysis. Understanding and application of ISO 13485 quality management system requirements. Understanding of FDA Design Controls and EU Medical Device Directive (CE Marking requirements). Excellent project management skills, familiar with project management methods and tools. Familiar with electro-mechanical manufacturing, depot service, and field service processes and operations. Experience with system level requirements definition. Understanding of Ultrasound. What You Will Do * Process design Coordinates implementation of manufacturing equipment, process automation, process expansions, and new initiatives. Includes project budgeting, design & interfacing with vendors of equipment and tooling, and maintaining appropriate documentation for new equipment and processes including qualification, verification, and validation. * Process sustenance Identify production interruptions and establish risk mitigations. Troubleshoot equipment and processing issues in support of production goals. Determine calibration and maintenance needs of new equipment. * Process evaluation Establish new product costs, develop and implement necessary SOP's, and establish processing, packaging and test specifications for products and equipment. Identify process inefficiencies and implement strategies, including automation and scale-up, to identified areas. * Maintain Budgets Create and maintain project time lines and plans, accelerating where possible. Create project and/or capital budgets in cooperation with management to meet department budgets. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physical Science. * 1 year of relevant work experience. Preferred Qualifications * Master of Science (M.S. or M.Sc.) in Engineering, Business, or related discipline. * 3+ years of medical device or pharmaceutical process experience or similar experience in a regulated industry. Technical & Functional Skills * Familiar with ISO 13485 / FDA QSR / GMP / Other medical industry regulations. * Ability to formulate program strategy, budgets and timelines. * Solidworks and/or AutoCAD. * Six Sigma Methodologies. * Statistical Analysis. * Strong technical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to communicate and write effectively.
