The Corporate Device Modeling and Technology Characterization Group within Microchip has a position for a Technical Staff Device Modeling and Measurement Engineer to join our team to help support the development of compact device models and characterize new technologies.
This individual will perform characterization of electrical devices and develop models to closely replicate their behavior, for use in circuit design simulations. Leveraging the utilization of technologies through a resourceful understanding of device behaviors, to improve analog precision, reduce power consumption and reduce physical circuit size. This individual will work with circuit design engineers to solve simulation problems.
This person will have opportunities to create their own test structures, mentor junior engineers, create and support code generation for measurement, document procedures and support troubleshooting throughout the device modeling process.

Key Responsibilities
Assess current airframe materials for obsolescence, cost reduction opportunities, and performance improvements.
Conduct comparative analysis of existing vs. alternative manufacturing processes. Assess impact on critical performance parameters such as strength, durability, fatigue life, etc.
Risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
Develop and/or maintain manufacturing and engineering processes such as machining, forming, welding, heat treatment, chemical milling, and composite fabrication.

Qualifications

About the Role:
As a mechanical engineer with Maverick Power, you will be working with our engineering and manufacturing teams to design and produce power distribution and control systems for industry leading customers all over the world. Key Responsibilities:
Oversee designs for low and medium voltage switchgear, switchboards, panel boards, and control panels.
Evaluate drawings and specifications to develop designs that meet customer requirements.
Design electrical enclosures meeting applicable UL, ANSI, IEEE, etc. safety standards.
Develop test plans for product validation and certification.
Work with 3rd party labs to test and analyze data.
Act as team lead with other Mavericks and outside engineering firms
Determine deliverable due dates and hold to the schedule
Lead interaction with other functions and locations to determine optimum product/process solutions.
Additional responsibilities include but not limited to: developing engineering solutions for the custom low-voltage switchboards, switchgear, panelboards, and medium-voltage switchgear.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical technology minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 508A, IEEE/ANSI, and NEC/NFPA 70E standards.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with 3D CAD, SolidWorks is preferred. CSWA/P/E certifications are desirable.
Manufacturing experience regarding the assembly of bills of material, drawing packages, work instructions, and testing plans
Bonus Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience with FEA, CFD, and/or Electro-Magnetic simulation software such as Ansys, Abaqus, EMS, Simscale, or Solidworks.
Previous design experience with low and medium-voltage switchgear assemblies/systems and associated equipment is desirable.
