Position: Design Engineer Reports to: Chief Engineer Location: The Woodlands, TX (or Odessa, FL) - this is an ON SITE position Schedule: 8a-5p M-F Relocation available for the right candidate! The Design Engineer supports the business during all project phases (pre-construction, execution, close-out) with engineering services. The employee works under the guidance of Chief Engineer and Ground Improvement Manager and utilizes the CAD Technician. Responsibilities: • Design/value engineering of foundations systems: o Design/VE of ground improvement (aggregate piers, vibro-compaction, vibro-replacement, rigid inclusions) • Maintenance of geotechnical report database/repository • Review of load test data/modulus test data and maintenance of load test database/repository • Perform QC of ground improvement installation • Support project teams in the preparation of pre-construction and close-out submittals • Lead preparation of shop drawings • Lead preparation of as-built drawings Requirements of this Positions: • Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering. • A minimum of 2 years experience in geotechnical or foundation structural design preferably in the design of Ground Improvement (aggregate piers, vibro-compaction, vibro-replacement, rigid inclusions). • Must be authorized to work in the US. • Preference will be given to candidates with P.E. license, Master's degree and experience in geo-structural design. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of entry-level engineering duties related to the management of a construction project and/or assist the Estimating department by performing quantity take-offs for construction estimates. Responsibilities: 1. Notifies subcontractors of commencement dates; solicits delivery schedules from suppliers and expedites deliveries to avoid costly construction delays 2. Participates in the proposed changes process by preparing quantity take-offs 3. Assists in preparation of the submittal schedule as required to meet construction schedule and coordinates submissions with subcontractors; assumes overall responsibility for submittals, including checking for accuracy, transmittals to and from subcontractors, architects, and superintendents, and maintains logs; expedites delivery of submittals when necessary to avoid delays in construction; keeps project manager abreast of submissions that will impact schedule 4. Prepares and/or oversees preparation of a number of reports dealing with the project such as material logs, submittal logs, RFI logs, drawing logs and long- lead items log as required by owners and/or company operating procedures 5. Assists in the verification of monthly subcontractor payment requests 6. May assume a role in locating suppliers for various building materials; reviews invoices upon request to verify quantity, quality and prices for construction materials 7. Responds to requests for information (RFIs) from owners and subcontractors, preparing RFIs for the project architect and/or structural engineer of record when necessary to clarify technical issues concerning the project; ensures that information received in response to RFIs is routed to the applicable field superintendent and subcontractors 8. Assists in compiling close-out documents including as-built drawings, guarantees, warranties, service manuals and other related documents for delivery to the owner; may prepare Austin's warranty for inclusion in this package and assist in preparing other close-out documents as assigned 9. When not assigned to a project, the PE II generally is assigned to the Estimating Department, preparing detailed cost estimates; may assist with value engineering activities and the pricing of those alternate procedures; interacts with a wide variety of construction professionals, including owner representatives, architects, structural engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. 10. Participates in jobsite safety as outlined in company's Safety & Health Manual 11.
