At least 5 years of hands-on experience operating machining equipment. Experience using CAD/CAM software to program CNC machines (Siemens NX is a plus). Comfortable writing G&M Code. Strong knowledge of cutting tools and how to hold parts in place during machining. Experience with quick-change tools and automation is a bonus. Good understanding of how to design efficient processes for CNC machining of complex parts. Experience developing automated and advanced manufacturing processes. Able to read blueprints and understand technical drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Must have experience programming 5-axis machining centers. Purpose of the Position This position is responsible for managing documents, equipment, tooling, and fixturing required to manufacture the diverse portfolio of products made by Kistler Instrument Corp. (KIC) Production Facility. The manufacturing engineer develops and troubleshoots manufacturing processes in order to improve product quality, cost, and/or lead-time. This includes investigation and proposal of new production equipment, process procedures, and methods to automate, improve, and/or scale-up new and existing processes. Main Tasks Provides technical support and improve manufacturing lines by specifying and/or refining BOMs, routings, work instructions, and test procedures. Design, document, procure, qualify, implement, and improve fixtures, tools and equipment. Provides documentation and training on assembly methods, test procedures, and production equipment. Troubleshoots day-to-day process performance issues, develop solutions, and monitor improvements. Works closely with R&D engineering, quality, purchasing, and planning to ensure products meet specified requirements. Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow. Design layouts of equipment and workspaces in conjunction with Kistler's Lean Initiatives for maximum production efficiency. Collaborates with R&D engineering design staff to develop manufacturing methods for new products. Responsible for change management and implementation for changes to manufacturing processes. Identify and lead continuous improvement efforts using Lean and Six Sigma tools to optimize production operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Travel up to 10% Local and International. Requirements Profile Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year technical or engineering college or university and a minimum of 2-5 years' related experience or equivalent of education and experience. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize work appropriately to meet commitments. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred) relevant to manufacturing operations. Experience with engineering change systems. Ability to interpret and create (Solidworks preferred) complex technical drawings, schematics, and specifications. Job Description GTI Fabrication is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, control, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes in a modular fabrication environment. This individual contributor role focuses on developing scalable, efficient production methods for custom enclosures, containerized systems, and structural steel weldments. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Lean Manufacturing, and quality systems such as ISO9001. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance across the product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for modular fabricated systems, containerized enclosures, and steel structures. Develop formal manufacturing documentation including process flow diagrams, work instructions, BOMs, routings, CNC programming, and assembly/inspection plans. Use CAD tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) to design fixtures, tooling, and work-holding solutions to support scalable production. Translate engineering design requirements into robust and efficient production processes. Lead new product introduction (NPI) efforts from prototype through full-rate production. Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve flow, and optimize floor layouts. Integrate automated and digital manufacturing technologies where applicable. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate manufacturability and ensure alignment between engineering intent and production capability. Utilize ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) to manage process documentation and support real-time operations visibility. Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 standards; support internal and external audits. Drive root cause analysis and corrective action using tools like FMEA, SPC, and 8D. Mentor technicians and junior engineers in best practices for manufacturing engineering. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. 8-15 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in modular fabrication, defense, energy, or industrial equipment sectors. Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and tolerance analysis. Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies. Experience with ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite a plus). Demonstrated success in process development, design for manufacturability, and production scaling. Hands-on experience with containerization, modular product platforms, and structural weldments. Knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems and compliance standards. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in containerized HVAC, power distribution, or control system enclosures. Familiarity with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and industrial coatings. Certification in Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or related process improvement disciplines. Experience with CFD/FEA simulation tools. Working Conditions: This is a full-time onsite position based in Buffalo, NY. Work takes place in both office and fabrication floor environments. May require occasional travel to customer sites or GTI facilities. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs and walk fabrication areas.
