Responsibilities
* Civil/Site development including grading design; roadway design; storm water management systems design; sanitary sewer design, water design, and water reuse design; and erosion and sediment control design for private, municipal, state, and federal clients.
* Work with a Professional Engineer in preparing all associated drawing packages, deliverables, calculations, reports, and spreadsheets.
* Work on design teams in collaboration with other disciplines to achieve project goals and deadlines.
* The Work is fast-paced and diverse, ranging from general civil engineering duties to technical work that requires strong communication and capabilities in AutoCAD, Civil3D, ICPR, ALDOT, MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and BlueBeam.
* Position will require learning and becoming proficient in Dewberry engineering practices and standards, and other Dewberry-specific software programs.
Required Skills & Required Experience
* BS degree in Civil Engineering.
* EIT is required.
* 2-4 years of design experience related to site development projects.
* AutoCad required and Civil3D preferable.
* Able to work on teams on different task and meets project deadlines.
* Work in a timely fashion to meet project budgets.
* Communicates effectively.
* Composes technical reports, permit documents, memorandums and other written communication such as email.
* Other duties as required.

Battelle is seeking a **Civil ResearchEngineer** in our Defense and Material Solutions (DMS) Business Line within our National Security Business Unit. This position supports the Advanced Materials and Energetics (AME) Division and the Systems Development, Modernization and Prototyping (SDMP) Division. **The ResearchEngineer** with general direction, performs civil engineeringresearch, design, development, testing and analysis. Analyzes and assesses feasibility and effectiveness of more complex plans and projects. May lead projects related to robotic or autonomous/unmanned systems.
Active areas of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) for this position include Unmanned, Robotic, and/or Autonomous Systems, Sensor/Payload Integration, Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Vehicle Interactions, and Autonomous/Semi-Autonomous Heavy Equipment Operations in Hazardous Environments (such as explosive ordnance and Civil Engineering Operations).
**This position is contingent upon contract award** and will be located on-site at **Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL** .
**Responsibilities**
+ Performs complex assignments related to design effectiveness and structural reliability. May lead and/or conduct research and development activities relative to civil engineering projects, ensuring all standards are met.
+ Analyzes more complex blueprints, maps, drawings, tests and data. Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to client, both formal and informal.
+ Troubleshoots processes when expected results are not obtained.
+ May provide direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.
+ Assists with proposal efforts as needed.
+ Builds relationships with internal and external clients and presents research results.
+ Communicates with client with regards to the schedule and quality of deliverables.
+ Contributes to Internal Research and Development studies (as needed).
+ Supports business development efforts led by others and secures follow-on work.
+ May participate in scientific conferences and peer review panels and works to increase company visibility through publications.
+ Oversees, mentors, and trains lower-level staff.
**Key Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical or computer engineering or related field with at least 5 years of experience or master's degree with 2 years of experience or PhD in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
+ Experience in preparing research and test plans, writing technical papers, executing RDT&E.
+ Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ MS degree in Civil, Mechanical or Computer Engineering or equivalent and at least 10 years of civil engineering-related RDT&E experience since graduation.
+ Specific experience related to unmanned systems, autonomous systems, sensor/payload integration.
+ Experience in preparing research proposals and plans, writing technical papers, executing RDT&E activities, and guiding junior team members responsible for executing RDT&E activities.
