    The Research Associate will perform a variety of complex studies to include developing aerosol exposure systems, characterizing complex aerosols, documenting laboratory work, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. Independently writes proposals, final reports, and cost estimates. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and current federal regulations (FDA GLP). The successful candidate will collaborate with scientific staff and will author sections of publications based on research performed as well as perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned. May supervise technical staff and provides training. Qualifications Requires a masters degree in a related scientific discipline and a minimum of 2 years demonstrated research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Directly-related experience in an aerosol research lab is required for this Research Associate position, as is demonstrated success independently completing aerosol research projects. Experience should include conducting related research, writing reports and protocols, using a scientific approach to analyze, interpret and report data within project deadlines. Must have a demonstrated understanding of science research principles, practices and procedures and the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures. Experience in a broad background of scientific fields including aerosol sciences, mechanical engineering, and analytical chemistry is highly desired. Additional competencies within electrical engineering, toxicology and pharmacology are preferred. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. A background check is required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required. Preferred/Additional Qualifications Experience working with aerosols. Ability to assemble, disassemble and test systems. Must be able to work on weekends, if needed. Job requires attention to detail. Physical Requirements Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations. About Our Team: The W93 Flight and System Enabling Technology Department is responsible for Flight Test planning and integration, System test asset builds, and the entire suite of logistics including the Integrated Surety Architecture. We directly engage across much of the Nuclear Security Enterprise including SNL/CA, LANL, PX, NNSA, LM, Navy, and KCNSC. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
