Purpose Statement
Rich Products, a $5.5Billion food manufacturing company, is looking for a Product Development Scientist II to join our growing R&D Team. In this role, you will be responsible for new product development, product maintenance and product improvement for our toppings, creams and culinary solutions (TCCS) category.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure successful development and commercialization of new products, product improvement or cost reductions. You will conduct routine, non-routine and complex research and development activities concerned with the chemical, biological and/or physical complexity of product formulations in order to develop new products and evaluate and improve the quality of existing products and related processes.
You will successfully partner with others cross-functionally.
This role is based in Buffalo, NY, with expected travel of up to 25%.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
New Product Development/Product Improvements/Cost reductions
* Prepares prototype and line extension products using research lab, pilot lab, manufacturing facilities and equipment, as required. Typical project assignments involve small product line extensions and iterative new products (e.g. modifying a customized product formula to create a new product).
* Plans, organizes and completes projects of modest scope or are a segment of a larger project. Selects and/or develops appropriate methods for conducting projects and assists in designing experiments.
* Interfaces frequently with various internal departments (i.e. Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering) and customers in accomplishing project milestones.
* Selects and evaluates raw materials for experiments.
* Sets-up, operates and maintains research lab equipment.
* Works with outside labs, universities, ingredient suppliers and lab equipment vendors as needed by project activity.
* Designs and conducts complex shelf life and storage studies, including product and package performance under various conditions and makes recommendations for appropriate adjustments in product and/or package as required.

* Performs complex measurements and statistical analysis.
Technical Support
* Presents results of complex experiments and recommendations to various groups, both internally and externally.
* Orders materials for producing and evaluating complex prototypes.

Record-keeping
* Maintains accurate, up to date records, laboratory notebooks and computer database.
* Prepare and document all plant validation trials according to department protocol.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field with 2+ years product development related experience in food preparation/food industry; M.S.in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related field.
* Experience developing some of the following - ambient icings, fillings, glazes, emulsions, dairy, UHT products highly preferred.
* Experience in applying advanced mathematics (i.e. statistics) and their practical application required.
* Broad understanding of food science (e.g. biochemistry, microbiology, nutrition, etc.) acquired through both lecture and laboratory work.
* Demonstrated ability to apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
* Solid verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills; with all levels within an organization.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment.
* Solid PC proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word and PowerPoint; intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Excel and database, statistical software (spreadsheets, computer analysis; report writing). Proficient with relevant software tools (e.g. PLM, etc.) a plus.
* Ability to use presentation and project management software beneficial.

Summary

The R&D Product Development Specialist coordinates the proper application of current product and packaging technologies to specific customer needs and conducts product development and test programs in support of the company's marketing and manufacturing efforts. management of New York State Wildlife resources. They provide information on the

species or specimens; collect, enter, and tabulate data; perform field compliance checks of various projects, supervise Fish and Wildlife Technicians 1 and work crews consisting of seasonal and permanent staff, laborers, and volunteers; independently coordinate and perform various field activities for several project areas or counties within a region.This includes but is not limited to: participating in Land Management activities on Wildlife Management Areas including annual work planning, inspection and upkeep of assets, access and habitat management; assisting with Big Game Management activities such as hunter-harvested deer and bear checking, collecting samples for CWD surveillance, DMAP and deer damage permit inspections and issuance, and human bear conflict abatement activities; conducting Upland Gamebird Management activities such as pheasant stocking and species specific surveys for grouse, turkey and woodcock; participating in Migratory Gamebird Management through waterfowl trapping, banding, and surveys; conducting Furbearer and Small Game Management program activities including furbearer and small game surveys, monitoring, and pelt sealing; implementing Snapshot NY camera trap monitoring project; conducting wildlife health disease monitoring and surveillance; assisting with regional coordination of the Hunter Education Program including management, storage, and inventory of equipment and supplies, communication with volunteer instructors to assist with program implementation, answering public inquiries, and assisting with instructor refreshers and/ or new instructor trainings, and assist with outreach and other HEP events such as National Archery in the Schools Program or Camp Rushford; coordinating and conducting Wildlife Diversity work including threatened/endangered bird nest monitoring, marsh and grassland bird surveys, amphibian and reptile surveys including assistance with turtle, snake, and hellbender projects, and other non-game species conservation projects as needed. Wildlife capture, chemical immobilization, marking experience, and experience handling and using firearms is a must. Must be able to deal effectively with the public and have good verbal communication skills, both in person and in a public-speaking forum. Handling wildlife-related inquiries and complaints from the public via phone, e-mail, and in-person and responding as appropriate and per Department SOPs is required. Attending stakeholder group meetings and various outreach events in the Region is also required.
Other critical duties include supervision of FWT1s, interns and/or volunteers, purchasing of equipment, materials, and supplies, and coordinating the maintenance of all motorized equipment. Maintaining various databases utilizing Excel software, operation of GPS, and using ArcGIS software, etc. is required.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

* Updates and routes SOPs, MOAs, Specifications through Documentum as delegated by supervisor.
* Performs troubleshooting of instrumentation by applying problem solving skills.
* Provides guidance to Associate Scientist personnel when necessary.
* Documents testing in compliance with Good Documentation Practices
* Manages work and time based on departmental priorities using own judgement and objective reasoning.
* Performs peer review of data to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Requirements
* Possess a B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, or related physical science. Typically, 2+ years of related experience in pharmaceutical industry and a familiarity with cGMP and FDA regulations.
* Must have hands-on experience and knowledge of chromatographic methods and related chromatography data systems (i.e., Empower). Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Must be flexible with continually changing projects and priorities.
