The Pattern Development Technician will support the Product Development and Engineering group projects by creating and developing patterns and other samples from technical drawings, sketches and other documentation provided by engineering, designers, or others in support of new and existing products. This position is in the laboratory of Dr. Chengwen Li in the Gene Therapy Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The general research interest is to develop adeno-associated virus ( AAV ) vectors to treat various diseases such as neurodegeneration disorders and liver diseases using animal and other research models, and to study the interaction of AAV vectors with host immune response in AAV transduced cells in a hope of designing more effective and safer AAV vectors for clinical applications. The projects will be translational potential and clinical impacts. Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Candidate must have a PhD or MD in Biotechnology or any fields of Biology. First Author peer-reviewed publications as well as strong communication skills are required. Work Environment The position is based in an older but updated lab, focused on in-process product testing directly from chemical operators. The environment is fast-paced, performing 120 tests per shift with over 300 methods. The lab follows standardized procedures aligned with regulatory agencies, and no R&D is conducted. The shift is 12 hours, from 7pm to 7am, with initial training on the first shift for 2-3 weeks. Long-term opportunities are contingent on the product line's sales performance.
