Job purpose
Making and testing new product samples for IPM/IPMPC customers.
Duties and responsibilities
Level 1
Understand R&D process from concept to commercialization
Assist in the development of new products from concept to commercialization within cost and nutritional guidelines
Improve current products with regard to both cost and quality
Keep up-to-date knowledge on food trends and competitor analysis
Set-up, Supervise & Support production trial runs & new product launches at various factory locations, at times assisting QA and production in troubleshooting issues
Communicate with vendors and suppliers as needed, especially sourcing new ingredients, specifications, pricing and building relationships
Be able to prepare samples in the Lab. Decide what ingredients and level are required to create finished products that meet a customer's need. Understand impact of different ingredients on finished product
Organize and order ingredients needed to prepare customer samples.
Duplicate formulas and make changes to existing formulas to meet target flavor profile. Accurately document formulas, specifications, and operating procedures.
Think critically about effects of formula changes on production ability.
Prioritize development activities throughout the project.
Level 2
Have an area of specific detailed knowledge (equipment, type of product, etc)
Aid other team members using specific detailed knowledge.
Train operators of any specialized equipment / software related to area of expertise.
Write official operating instructions, equipment diagrams, or other SOP needed to run equipment.
Work with QA team to write HACCAP plan for any new procedure / equipment.
Work with project manager and equipment buyer on recommendations for purchase.
Attend trainings and trade shows that relate to area of expertise
Occasionally visit customers as needed by customer service / sales.
Communicate with customers about specific technology or resource.
Communicate with support team from any equipment, technology, software product company that relates to area of expertise.

Your Role
Mirus Bio is expanding and has an immediate opening for a full-time R&D Scientist based in Madison, WI to help develop the next generation of transfection reagents, enhancers, and related products. This role will join the R&D Chemistry Team to perform hands-on polymer synthesis work for the next generation of transfection reagents, enhancers, and related products. This R&D Scientist position reports to the Director of Chemistry.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments that support the development and application of new and existing transfection technologies and products. Contribute and evaluate new products ideas/areas to determine technical feasibility and application.
Synthesize and characterize novel compounds by performing organic and polymer chemistry reactions, sample preparation and routine analytical testing. These reactions may be performed under inert conditions using a Schlenk line and reflux.
Skilled in performing and interpreting a variety of analytical techniques such as TLC, GPC, HPLC, NMR, FTIR, UV, DLS, MS, pH meter, etc. Knowledge and experience with purification and separation techniques such as extraction, distillation, precipitation, recrystallization, and chromatography of various compounds.
Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and tracking of synthesized materials in a timely manner. Follow Good Documentation Practices.
Communicate effectively across multiple teams, such as Production, Quality, and Operations, to ensure alignment and eliminate barriers. Build positive relationships during internal and external interactions. Attend, present data, and participate in discussions at R&D group meetings. Participate in background presentations on a rotating basis.

Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Polymer Chemistry
Experience synthesizing and characterizing polymers for biomedical applications such as nucleic acid or drug delivery

At least 2 years designing, synthesizing, and characterizing polymers for the purpose of delivering nucleic acids to cells
Experience developing, performing, maintaining, and documenting various synthetic and analytical techniques in an industrial setting under GxP guidelines and regulations

Key responsibilities
+ Lead formulation and concept development from end-to-end on internal and customer projects within North America for the Beverage market.

Qualifications and skills
+ BSc/MSc/PhD in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related field.
+ 5+ years of hands-on experience in product development, preferably beverages products.
+ Experience working with 'functional ingredients' is a plus - probiotics, adaptogens, botanical extracts, etc.
+ Working knowledge of the beverage market in North America.
+ Proven success in product development resulting in successful market launch.
+ Curiosity and a willingness to push creative boundaries.
+ Strong team-player, with excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and project management skills.

The pay range for this position is 75,602- 123,432 in Annual Salary. In collaboration with the Childcare Food Specialist, the Child Care Food Service Technician oversees all aspects of food service, clean-up, and site sanitation, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will help prepare menu-specified recipes for breakfast, lunch, and snacks that meet the diverse nutritional needs of our young learners in a nurturing and inclusive environment. In the absence of the Childcare Food Specialist, you'll take the lead in food preparation, service, and clean-up, ensuring seamless operations.
This position reports to the Associate Manager of the Early Learning Campus, where your contributions will directly impact our mission to provide exceptional early childhood education and care as part of our exciting expansion efforts.

Accountabilities:
Assists the Childcare Food Specialist in preparing meals that meet menu guidelines, nutritional and cultural needs, and age-appropriate portions. Prepares food for special center events and promotes family-style dining in classrooms. Leads food preparation in the absence of the Childcare Food Specialist. This ensures children receive nutritious, culturally respectful meals in a supportive environment that encourages healthy eating habits and social development.
Delivers meals and service items to classrooms on schedule, returns leftovers and dishes to the kitchen, and cleans and stores food according to regulations. This ensures timely, safe meal service and maintains compliance with health standards to support children's well-being.
Maintains inventory and condition of supplies and equipment, reporting any faults to the Childcare Food Specialist and Assistant Manager. This helps ensure a safe, efficient kitchen environment and uninterrupted meal service.
Ensures all food service areas are safe, clean, and culturally appropriate, maintaining compliance with State Licensing, City Accreditation, USDA Food Program, Wisconsin Early Learning Standards, and Madison College policies. This safeguards the health and well-being of all enrolled children while meeting essential regulatory and quality standards.
Together with the Childcare Food Specialist, maintains accurate records of menus, production, inventory, and sanitation. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Meets requirements of WI Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers (HFS 46) for physical exam, TB skin test, and criminal background check both upon hire and on ongoing basis. Achieve within 3 months and maintain current certification in first aid and CPR.
Ability to follow recipes, worksheets, and verbal instructions to prepare food per regulations, including scaling recipes and portioning servings for infants-preschoolers.
