The Farris lab (******************************* at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI ***************************** focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying learning and memory. We are currently investigating area CA2 of the hippocampus, a subregion essential for social memory. Using a combination of mouse genetics to manipulate specific hippocampal cell-types and advanced, high-resolution imaging techniques, we hope to provide mechanistic insight on the behaviorally-induced synaptic modifications in CA2 that may be required for encoding social behavior. The Farris lab is recruiting a full-time Research Associate that will be responsible for performing molecular and cellular neurobiology experiments, including rodent intrahippocampal infusion surgeries, maintaining the mouse colony and genotyping, and assisting with lab-related administrative tasks, such as ordering lab supplies and maintaining lab equipment. The Sassi Lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a full time Research Associate to assist in general laboratory operations and conduct research experiments together with other lab members. Responsibilities include knowledge of and experience with general cell and molecular laboratory techniques, basic animal handling (specifically mice) and colony maintenance. Other duties will include basic laboratory management, including supply ordering, maintaining and preparing lab reagents, tracking laboratory expenses, and maintaining laboratory certifications and licenses. Applicants should have a strong background or understanding of molecular biology techniques, in addition to implementation of relevant in vivo models. The Research Associate will manage the development of scientific hypotheses, design experiments, collect data, and write manuscripts in particular with relationship to cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases.
