Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Research & Development Compounding Technician to support the preparation of experimental sterile and non-sterile formulations. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, working directly with pharmacists and product developers on new formulations, product testing, and controlled documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong compounding experience, comfort with lab equipment, and the ability to maintain a clean, compliant laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities Formulation & Compounding ●Prepare sterile and non-sterile research formulations including capsules, creams, ointments, suspensions, solutions, injectables, and syrups. ● Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients using precise technique and calibrated lab equipment. ● Perform potency calculations and assist with formulation trials or process improvements. Product Testing & Documentation ●Support stability studies, compatibility assessments, and basic analytical tests (pH, viscosity, density, particle size). ●Document research batches, maintain lab notebooks, label samples, and ensure accurate tracking of materials. ●Assist in updating SOPs, formulation worksheets, and project-related documents. Laboratory Operations ● Clean, maintain, and calibrate equipment such as capsule machines, mixers, homogenizers, and balances. ● Manage ingredient inventory, monitor supply levels, and request ordering when needed. ● Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant R&D workspace. ● Experience with picnometers and viscometers preferred per hiring manager intake. Cross-Functional Collaboration ● Work closely with pharmacists, QA, and product development teams on ongoing projects. ● Provide observations during formulation trials and support preparations for pilot-scale batches. Responsibilities Works in a safe manner in accordance with facility and site Environmental Health & Safety policies. Performs analytical and product characterization testing for one or more projects as directed by project leads. Sets up and runs simple reactions, prepares formulations, and characterizes material (e.g., surfactant properties). Conducts analytical analysis, with GC, GC-MS, and LC, as necessary. Tests materials in market applications. Prepares for, manages, and independently executes procedures and laboratory work requests, for which activities may include sample or materials preparations, equipment setup/configuration and operation, and proper handling and disposal of waste materials. Develops experimental plans for review/approval by Lead Scientist, and executes approved plans by performing routine and non-standard tasks or procedures of higher complexity Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of simple and moderately complex instruments and testing equipment, and troubleshoots and repairs faulty equipment, or initiates repair processes as appropriate. Accurately and reliably documents data and observations, communicates results clearly to stakeholders, and provides recommendations on next steps. Participates in technical training to attain on-the-job proficiency Participates in good housekeeping practices Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering/purchasing procedures. Promptly and effectively communicates issues to lead scientists to enable or accelerate problem resolution. Actively participates in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics. Develops a specific expertise within the department and laboratory work group in specific procedures, equipment, or instruments. Required qualifications: Must meet one of the following: A High school Diploma/GED equivalent AND 5 years of relevant work experience OR An Associate's Degree or higher (or higher) (Applied Science in a relevant field i.e., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology preferred) OR 3 years relevant military training experience A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
