The R&D Laboratory Technician will support the Maize Transformation team within Crop Transformation Systems in Biotechnology/Trait Discovery and Optimization. This role is responsible for executing laboratory procedures to generate high-quality transgenic and genome-edited plants in support of trait discovery, trait optimization, and product development programs.
Responsibilities
Perform crop transformation activities, including preparation of explants, plant transformation procedures, sub-culturing tissue during the selection process
Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
Maintain accurate and complete electronic and legal laboratory notebook documentation.
Summarize experimental results, identify trends, and recommend opportunities for process improvement.
Organize and manage daily laboratory workflows to meet project timelines and deliverables.
Perform all laboratory work in accordance with safety, ergonomic, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented research environment and contribute to shared goals.
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field.
Previous laboratory experience in plant tissue culture, biotechnology, or a research laboratory environment preferred.
Familiarity with aseptic techniques, SOP-driven lab environments, and documentation practices.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document experimental procedures and results.
Effective communication and organizational skills.

Scope Of Position: The Senior R&D Scientist for Product Development, is responsible for leading formula and process development initiatives within the JBS sausage business. Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end development of new sausage products, from ideation and concept creation to formulation, testing, and transition to full-scale manufacturing.
Conduct ingredient research and source novel components to support innovative sausage formulations and superior sensory experiences.
Design and execute structured ideation processes, generating creative concepts that align with company goals and consumer trends.
Develop and optimize sausage recipes to achieve desired flavor, texture, nutritional profile, and shelf life, ensuring products meet regulatory and quality standards.
Plan and conduct small and large scale plant trials, oversee scale-up processes, and troubleshoot technical challenges during production transition.
Creates and manages product specifications and BOM reviews
Maintains accurate and complete records, analyzes reports

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in meat science/food science or equivalent with 5-10 years of industry experience or Graduate degree with 3-8 years of experience. Processing and operations experience will be a plus and considered in conjunction with R&D experience.
Extensive background in raw and fully cooked sausage product development is required
3+ years of developing the process, formulations, sanitary equipment design, process optimization, yield improvements, equipment design scoping and testing required
FSQA knowledge related to protein product development is strongly preferred
Experience with natural casings, collagen, co-extrusion, forming, packaging, shelf life and food safety of sausages and sausage products is required
Pro-active self-starter, willing to take responsibility for completion of business tasks. Must be a driven individual that can take ownership of projects and complete all the relevant R&D tasks required for the job with minimal oversight.
Excellent collaboration, creative problem-solving skills and organizational skills
Ability to work with ambiguity and pivot quickly
Must be able to work closely with many internal and external departments including Sales, Regulatory, R&D, Quality, Marketing, Purchasing, and Production, external labs/facilities.
Must be able to work in a food manufacturing environment and be able to flawlessly transition products and processes from R&D to operations

Reporting to the Manager, Chemical Synthesis and Bulk Manufacturing, the Chemical Technician II is responsible for manufacturing a wide variety of chemical solutions and powders, in addition to using wet bench chemistry to test and adjust the manufactured chemistry using an assortment of techniques and instruments.
This position is part of the Bulk Chemical Manufacturing Department located in Ames, Iowa and will work onsite 4 days per week!
**This position is second shift** **Schedule: Monday through Thursday** **2:00pm-12:00am.**
**In this role, a typical day will look like:**
+ Manufacture bulk solutions, bulk powders, microbiological media and dyes. Use a wide variety of different raw materials including concentrated acids, bases, heavy metals, oxidizers, and flammable materials.
+ Perform production controls and adjust bulk reagents to meet product specifications and ensure quality.
+ Comply with company safety policies including safe operation of equipment, PPE usage, safe transportation, and handling of bulk chemicals and keep accurate records for production and inventory.
**The essential requirements of the job include:**
+ 1 year of completed college chemistry with lab required.
+ 1 year scientific production, process, or lab technician experience required or Bachelor of Science degree in lieu of experience required
