Purpose
The Research Analytical Chemist II will supports the Isotope Harvesting Program (IHP) at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) by advancing isotope harvesting, QA/QC, and radiochemical separation processes. This role ensures the reliable production of high-purity radionuclides through operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, implementation of SOPs, and support for method development and process improvement within a multidisciplinary team.
Major Duties / Responsibilities
Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments in the QA/QC laboratory, including radio-TLC, ICP-MS/OES, alpha/gamma spectrometers, liquid scintillation counters, acid purification systems, and general chemistry equipment. In addition, provide training to graduate students and staff, and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of these instruments to ensure their optimal performance and the accuracy of analytical results.
Operate hot cells, fluidic systems, and purification systems within the quality and safety framework.
Write, review, update, and implement QA/QC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under the guidance of the operations lead. Execute QA SOPs for routine radionuclide production to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
Prepare samples for analysis with proper labeling, documentation, and adherence to safety protocols. Maintain accurate records of experiments, procedures, and results in accordance with following regulatory requirements and good laboratory practices.
Perform a wide range of QA/QC tests, interpret test results, identify trends, and provide summaries or reports to the Operations Manager and R&D team focusing on accuracy and precision. Additionally, make recommendations to improve and update production protocols with guidance from the R&D team Operations Manager, and collaborate with scientists and researchers to develop and validate analytical methods and procedures.
Ensure product shipping complies with regulatory requirements and good laboratory practices.
Compiles and summarizes results and participates in preparing reports, manuscripts, and articles for publication.
Oversees QA/QC needs and orders required materials, supplies, and equipment.
Research literature to maintain a current knowledge of laboratory research methods and terminology.
Perform duties normally associated with a ResearchAssistant I to complete research projects.

Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking an accomplished scientist to serve as Laboratory Director for the PFAS Analytical Laboratory, a unit within the MSU Center for PFAS Research. The principal duties of this laboratory-based position will be to provide administrative and technical leadership for a service analytical laboratory that performs analyses of per- and poly-fluorinated aliphatic substances (PFAS) for clients at MSU and elsewhere. The PFAS Lab currently supports multiple substantial grants and consists of two LC/triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, a combustion ion chromatography system, and assorted accessories used for sample preparation, with four current laboratory staff. Primary responsibilities of the position are:
• Provide vision, planning, and a sound business plan that will provide optimal support of PFAS-related research by investigators at MSU and external institutions and will grow with evolving needs based on coordination with an Internal Advisory Committee;
• Generate laboratory revenues through fee-for-service activities and financial support from internal and extramural sources;

Position Summary
Henry Ford + MSU is embarking upon a major strategic growth plan to add up to 60 new open rank faculty positions over 6 years across a range of departments. We currently seek exceptional researchers with a record of innovative in-silico, patient-oriented, or population science, and history of research funding commensurate with rank. Successful candidates will join our Detroit campus and be expected to collaborate closely with clinicians and scientists in Detroit and across the entirety of Henry Ford and MSU. Outstanding candidates in all specialties will be considered, especially those applicants focused on neurosciences, cardiometabolic health, women's health, or musculoskeletal health, as well as precision health/data science.
Ideal candidates are highly productive, research intensive, and mission driven, with a strong desire for their science to have a timely clinical and/or community impact. Applicants must have a PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent. Applicants at the Associate and full Professor/Scientist levels should have a record of sustained extramural funding and high-impact, peer-reviewed publications. Assistant Professor/Scientist level candidates should have training and research track record consistent with a career path that will lead to extramural funding as an independent investigator. All successful candidates will be expected to maintain robust extramural funding, with federal funding as a cornerstone of their research programs and be actively engaged in elevating the Henry Ford + MSU partnership.
Positions are jointly funded through Henry Ford + MSU, and candidates may be hired by Henry Ford Health or Michigan State University with a secondary, no-pay appointment at the other institution. The primary academic appointment will be based upon the candidate's discipline, research, and interests.
