The Basics
Tanium is seeking an AI Research Scientist Intern for Summer 2026. This role reports to our Staff Data Scientist leading AI design, prototyping, and experimentation across Tanium products and solutions. As an AI Research Scientist Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging real-world problems, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to building intelligent systems that will shape the future of autonomous IT across endpoint management, exposure management, and security operations.
This is a hybrid position, which will require in person attendance several days each week in Durham, NC OR Emeryville, CA.
The hourly rate for this internship is $55 to $60 per hour. This hourly rate is an estimate for what Tanium will pay an intern. The actual rate offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, education, skills, training, and experience. In addition to an hourly rate, interns will be eligible for a housing stipend, 401k matching, and a monthly allowance for communications reimbursement.
What you'll do
Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to design and implement AI and machine learning (ML) algorithms that improve Tanium's autonomous IT capabilities.
Develop and evaluate ML models across a wide variety of use cases, including anomaly detection, threat identification, and performance optimization.
Analyze large-scale endpoint data to extract meaningful insights and develop predictive models.
Assist in building data pipelines to efficiently process and analyze endpoint data at scale.
Conduct exploratory data analyses and visualizations to communicate findings and inform product development decisions.
Document research, methodologies, and results to contribute to Tanium's knowledge base.
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and endpoint management technologies.
We're looking for someone with
Strong foundation in machine learning, data analysis, and statistics.
Proficiency in Python.
Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, numpy, scipy, pandas).
Experience working with large datasets.
Knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

Primary PurposeThe Engineering Research Technician is a critical role that is focused on signal data collection across numerous bolts. Athletes participating in the PDP undergo baseball and athletic assessments using state-of-the-art technology as part of the most comprehensive evaluative experience in any sport.
This position will be responsible for aggregating and organizing athlete performance data collected at PDP events, ensuring accuracy across multiple systems, and producing personalized Player Reports for participating athletes. The intern will also help develop reports and dashboards to monitor data quality, accuracy, and trends to support the ongoing evolution of USA Baseball's analytics efforts.

In this Role:

JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY
The WFIRM Research Laboratory Technician IV will participate in a research project to develop a new platform to enable the testing of vaccines. Under a general supervision plan, the applicant will perform a variety of complex tasks including antigen uptake and presentation, immune cell activation and differentiation, in vitro biological and functional tests for verification of tissue construct viability and functional assays. Under general supervision plan, develop, modify, and implement previously developed and original experimental procedures in a research laboratory exercising independent judgment based upon specialized theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. CHARACTERISTIC WORK
Confer with principal investigator and collaborators in the planning, developing, and implementation of research projects; develop control procedures for test standardization and clinical product manufacturing processes.
Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures.
Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
University graduation with a major in the biological sciences and four years of related research experience, whichever applicable for position to be filled.
Master's degree in immunology, biology, or related physical science and two years of laboratory experience.
