As a Research Technologist at Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) located in New Kensington, PA, you will be an integral member of the production team responsible with leading projects from design through implementation by organizing, delegating, coordinating, and directing activities within the scope of functional specialization. This role will be part of a pilot-scale production team focusing on manufacturing and testing advanced proprietary materials for the development of innovative technology.
About the Role:
Maximize production capacity through process improvements by minimizing ergonomic issues, while meeting customer demand and deliver on-time performance.
Provide technical direction to technicians and support personnel in ceramic processing, including powder mixing, milling, spray drying, pressing, machining, firing and quality control.
Track current production performance and improvement to determine effectiveness.
Responsible for the quality of work performed by others. Assignments involve initiating, designing, developing, testing, and installing equipment for projects or programs.
Provide operational troubleshooting and problem solving.
Manage equipment design and product line design.
Coordinate and take part in manufacturing audits.
Provide technical direction to support products and processes.
Coordinate daily tasks to achieve operational goals.
Coordinate and execute production planning maintenance tasks.
Provide CAD/CAM programming when needed.
Produce reports and presentations.
What you can bring to this role:
Associate of Science with 5 years of work experience in ceramics, chemical or material processing
In lieu of a degree, 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing/process environment
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Experienced in ceramic operations.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $100,000 - $160,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. Purpose:
Provide expertise in supervising the Chemical Laboratory within the Tenaris Koppel Quality Department. The primary responsibilities of this role include ensuring the proper preparation and testing of specimens from the melt shop and other operational areas to assess material quality. The position also ensures that all laboratory operations are conducted safely, accurately, and efficiently, in accordance with internal standards, applicable regulations, and quality system requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
* Oversees daily operations of the Chemical Laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely analysis of steel, slag, and raw material samples using OES, LECO, X-ray, and radiation detection equipment.
* Performs and validates laboratory tests according to applicable API, ASTM, and ISO standards, and internal Tenaris quality documents.
* Coordinates and supervises laboratory personnel, providing guidance, task allocation, and ensuring adherence to testing and safety standards.
* Maintains and calibrates laboratory instruments and ensures the availability of consumables, spare parts, and necessary materials for continuous operation.
* Reports and verifies specimen/test results, ensuring accuracy and compliance with required specifications and communicating findings to the Quality teams and relevant clients.
* Collaborates with operational and quality departments to synchronize laboratory activities, optimize sample flow, and improve efficiency of operations.
* Supports quality management systems by developing, updating, and maintaining laboratory procedures, operating practices, and documentation.
* Leads and supports HSE initiatives-reporting incidents or unsafe conditions, conducting inspections, and implementing corrective or preventive actions in accordance with Tenaris HSE procedures.
* Manages procurement and supplier interactions, including service scope definition, contract follow-up, and purchase requisition (PR/PO) processes related to laboratory materials and maintenance.
* Develops and updates Power BI reports and dashboards to support the Quality North team in tracking laboratory performance and key indicators.
* Protects from damage, theft or misuse the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.
* Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* 3 years of experience in a chemical laboratory environment understanding analysis techniques (OES, LECO, XRay, Radiation)
* Experience supervising unionized personnel.
* Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and manufacturing operations.

Job Responsibilities

* Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all lab equipment and notifying lead of issues, should they be found
* Proper usage, maintenance and storage of all lab tools, equipment and material.

* Assists in completing other secondary production/processing tasks at the discretion of the Extraction Manager according to company needs.
