Job Summary The Associate Scientist in R&D will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of science based projects aimed at advancing product development initiatives. Prepare, purify, and characterize protein complexes, including large multi-subunit assemblies and membrane-associated proteins. Collect and process cryo-EM data using the Talos Arctica and downstream pipelines (e.g., cryo SPARC and RELION). Integrate structural findings with biochemical and genetic data to define mechanism of action. Develop and optimize workflows for sample preparation, grid screening, and high-throughput image acquisition. This program has a 21-yr history of success at MSU and will be continuing long-term research projects, including conventional no-till (majority) and certified organic emphases, and exploring new dimensions for sustainable crop management. This program has held a strong focus on crop diversification, especially with pulse crops, and in studying cropping systems impacts on soils. Close collaboration with soil and pest science colleagues, and other scientific disciplines, is routine. The Research Associate will be expected to coordinate activities with the Project Director (Dr. Perry Miller) and accomplish the objectives of the program in close communication but often with minimal supervision in conducting various tasks. Research sites may occur across Montana but will reside mainly in the Gallatin Valley near MSU. Occasionally, due to travel out in the state and/or during planting and harvest, long days may be required to perform time-sensitive crop management operations.     Northern Agricultural Research Center (NARC) is located seven miles southwest of Havre, MT, and is an integral part of Montana State University. NARC is one of the seven Research Centers comprising the Department of Research Centers. Researchers at NARC conduct agricultural field and greenhouse studies, interact with farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, industry, and the MSU Cooperative Extension Service. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement studies that support the Cropping Systems Research Program. Lead the establishment of field and greenhouse studies in collaboration with PI. Develop protocols, collect and analyze research data to meet project objectives. Work independently and ability to make research decisions in the absence of PI. Supervise and train part-time employees and student interns. Interact effectively with researchers, producers, and agricultural industry partners.
