Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Mental Health Security Specialist Shift Supervisor - SES within the Security Department. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
* This position functions as the Mental Health Security Administrative Supervisor and assists Mental Health Security Chief with the management and direct supervision of the Security Department for a very large mental health institution. The incumbent in this position is a working supervisor that responds to calls for service.
* Supervise and participate in securing the environment by patrolling activities for the protection and security of buildings, living areas, the people we serve, materials, equipment and fenced-in areas; inspect for fire hazards, unauthorized personnel and eloping individuals.
* Supervise and participate in the inspection inside buildings for the security of doors, entrance of unauthorized persons, and the safeguarding and protection of property, equipment and materials of the department, the people we serve and employees.
* Investigate reported thefts and destruction of department property.
* Supervise's assigned Mental Health Security Specialists and Centrex Operator in their areas of responsibilities.
* Develop and provide standards of performance, identifying strengths and areas of improvement as an ongoing evaluation of performance.
* Administer consistent and appropriate disciplinary actions after consulting with the Mental Health Security Chief.
* Respond to calls for service with subordinates to gather knowledge for future evaluations, and monitors maintenance of equipment and supplies utilized to reduce cost controllable expense.
* Compile, maintain and track pertinent information and stats to assist in special assignments, performance improvement and CQI projects.
* Responsible for timely preparation and posting of the matrix work schedules to ensure the department is functioning at an optimum level.
* Monitor and approve timecards and leave request in the KRONOS System.
* Responsible for the oversight and monitoring of overtime and proper usage and enforcement of the stay-over procedure for minimum staffing coverage for all three shifts.
* Provides and coordinates officers to accompany transports to other facilities, doctor visits, court appearances and other places individuals may be required to appear.
* Ensures Security Department vehicles get routine maintenance and coordinates vehicle availability while other vehicles are being serviced or repaired.
* Responsible for implementing new policies and procedures within the department.
* Consults with Staff Development and Training Department to ensure compliance with specified mandatory training.
* Substitute by proxy in the absence of the Mental Health Security Chief as requested.
* Notify the Mental Health Security Chief in the event of unusual occurrences with all pertinent information relating to the situation.
* Assist with investigations to complaints of violations of the human rights of mentally challenged individuals.
* This includes abuse, neglect, and/or mishandling of individuals.
* Incumbent develops and monitors fire and disaster drills, and ensures scheduling of the same, and that appropriate reports are filed.
* Participates in the interview process to fill vacancies within the Security Department and is an active member of the Safety Committee and provides oversight of any safety issues that may arise within the Security Department.
* Participate as a designee in meetings, special projects, or special functions as appointed, representing the department in a professional and courteous manner.
* Provide feedback to the Mental Health Security Chief or AIS as needed.
* Responsible for maintaining records of the uniform-ordering-process while obtaining uniforms for all officers.
* Incumbent maintains inventory of the Security Department assigned equipment radios, vehicles, traffic control items, etc.
* Determines the needs of the department, researches to find the appropriate product, and prepares purchase requisitions in the ARTS system.
* Ensure subordinates maintain 90% compliance with identified mandatory training.
* Supervise and participate in ensuring services at the Welcome Center are carried out.
* Duties consist of signing in and monitoring of all visitors and staff entering the campus.
* Ensure proper procedures are followed with regard to the switchboard and safety center duties.
* Supervise and participate in securing the environment by patrolling activities for the protection and security of buildings, living areas, the people we serve, materials, equipment and fenced-in areas; inspect for fire hazards, unauthorized personnel and eloping individuals.
* Serves as MANDT Adjunct Training Instructor for a minimum of one full class per month.
* May be required to teach additional classes depending on the needs of the Department.
* MANDT Instructors will also provide quarterly MANDT Refresher Training as assigned for the purpose of conducting monthly validation monitoring.
* The MANDT Instructors will ensure that the designated staff maintain and demonstrate appropriate MANDT skills and techniques.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Successful completion of college course work with a major course of study in one of the social, behavioral or rehabilitative sciences can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required work experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: A high school diploma or equivalent and must be eligible to take the State Officer Certification Examination within the next six months and receive a passing score.
