FIO provides collaborating opportunities across academia, government, and private sector for educational, training, research, and public outreach for students and scientists across the state of Florida. The FIO currently operates a fleet of oceanographic research vessels and a marine facility (Keys Marine Lab) located in Layton, FL, which supports and enables research and education across the state of Florida, offering unique opportunities for college level education and research studying marine ecosystems. FIO acquired the Research Vessel Western Flyer in November 2022, which will be used to expand upon educational and research activities through the use of the deep-sea remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Taurus. For nearly half a century, Florida's coastline and marine life has been protected and monitored by the Florida Institute of Oceanography providing a shared resource across the State University System (SUS). The Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO) is an Institute of the University of South Florida (USF) encompassing a Consortium that consists of 35 members across the State. Key Responsibilities: * Respond promptly and professionally to guest and hotel requests and emergencies. * Interact with guests and employees in a friendly and respectful manner, maintaining confidentiality. * Patrol and inspect the property regularly, reporting any irregularities or hazardous conditions. * Operate the property gate system, providing friendly and informative assistance. * Enforce company policies and all applicable local, state, and federal laws while on duty. * Maintain the safety and orderliness of guest and employee conduct on the premises. * Perform daily lock-up and safety procedures as directed. * Respond to guest needs and requests in a timely, professional manner. * Conduct monthly inventories of security equipment (e.g., flashlights, keys, documents) and report discrepancies. * Report any conditions that may impact security operations. * Follow all hotel policies and procedures. * Maintain a clean and safe work environment. * Cross-train in various security tasks as assigned by the Manager on Duty. * Adhere to the company's appearance and dress code at all times. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED required. * Strong verbal communication skills in English. * Ability to thrive in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment. * Calm and diplomatic customer service skills. * Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities. * Honest, trustworthy, and reliable team player. * Capable of working with minimal supervision. * Able to work indoors and outdoors as necessary. * Available to work overnight, weekends, and holidays. * Previous hospitality experience preferred. Working Conditions: * Indoor: Temperature-controlled, clean environments such as offices, guest rooms, and public areas. Walking on various surfaces, including slippery areas. * Outdoor: Exposure to varying weather conditions, with walking on various surfaces (e.g., cement, tile, pavement). * Minimal exposure to hazardous substances, including possible blood-borne pathogens. Physical Demands: * Stands/walks approximately 50% of the shift; sits/drives the other 50%. * Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies anywhere on the property. * Bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting (up to 50lbs) are required. * Flexibility and good reflexes for operating electric/gas carts. * Daily use of stairs.
