Proceed independently when installing or troubleshooting electrical equipment; obtain needed information form wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and code books.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. At the time of a permanent vacancy, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.

Extra Help:
Extra Help employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
Extra Help employees are paid prevailing rate per the trade. They may work full-time hours (37.5 per week) throughout their employment as Extra Help, however they are not to exceed 900 hours during each Extra Help appointment.Contact Information for Applicants

INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
Install power supply wiring and diagnoses or troubleshoots malfunctions.
Repair or replace faulty components, such as relays, switches, motors, or fixtures.
Read and interpret work orders, technical descriptions, and safety manuals including NEC and ANSI.
Read and follow electrical codes, manuals, schematics, specifications, and circuit prints.
Prepare maintenance or repair plans, including calculation of material and personnel needs. Coordinate with operating personnel regarding work permits and maintenance and repair activities.
Install, repair and maintain motors, electrical operating equipment, alarm systems, switches, relays, and fixtures.
Inspect and maintain transformers, buss bars, circuit breakers, and wiring connections in power distribution sub-stations.
Troubleshoot electrical equipment, switchgear, controls, and wiring using test equipment.
Repair motor, starter, and controls, including rewiring and replacing bearings
Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and meggers
Use tools, equipment, and materials such as voltage testers, various hand and power tools, mounting devices, boxes, and receptacles, conduit, conductors, blueprints and schematics, switches, relays, alarm systems, motors, and starters and fixtures.
