Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - Journey Traveler must be able to travel nationwide for 13 week assignments. This position provides flexibility to travel the country and work in various settings. On assignment the SLP organizes and provides speech-language services for the location to facilitate rehabilitation. They direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. Coordinates the acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instructs patients in their use. Facilitates identification of hearing deficits and appropriately refers for assessment, diagnosis rehabilitation and/or personal amplification. The Marshall University Speech and Hearing Center, ( MUSHC ) currently provides a variety of evaluation and therapeutic services to individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. It is an essential component of the Department of Communication Disorders' academic program and serves as a clinical site for both undergraduate and graduate students. Furthermore, the MUSHC is one of the largest out-patient speech and hearing centers serving the tri-state community. The role of this position is two-fold, 1) provide clinical services to children and with communication and/or swallowing disorders and 2) provide clinical education/supervision to students to ensure they receive the necessary experience to meet the standards for certification for the American Speech Language Hearing Association. May also be assigned to teach laboratories which are clinical in nature. Services may be rendered on- and off-campus per assignment by the Chair or Director of Clinical Education.
