The Speech Therapist in Home Health is responsible for the assessment and evaluation of patient care needs related to treating speech and language disorders and functional training in communication, swallowing, and cognitive impairments.
Provides services within the scope of practice as defined by the state laws governing the practice of speech therapy, in accordance with the plan of care, and in coordination with other members of the health care team.
Evaluates the patient's level of function by applying diagnostic and prognostic functional ability tests. Assists the physician in the development of the therapy plan of care.
Treats patients to communicate effectively by expressing thoughts according to the patient's condition using acceptable standards of practice.
Instructs the patient, the family and/or caregiver and other members of the health care team in areas of speech therapy in which they can participate.
License Requirements
Must be currently licensed in Speech Therapy in the state of FL
Current CPR certification

Responsibilities
As a Home Health Speech Language Pathologist, You will:
Communicate with patients to evaluate their levels of speech or language difficulty, determining the need for continued therapy services
Teach patients how to make sounds and improve their voices
Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to patients with little or no speech capability
Educate and guide healthcare team members, patients, and caregivers in specific aspects of therapeutic exercises to support continued progress outside of direct therapy sessions
Document appropriate progress and clinical notes noting patient's response to therapy and submit visit documentation per Agency policy
Qualifications
Minimum of Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from a college or university with accredited Speech Language Pathology program
A minimum of one (1) year's work experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
Current, unrestricted license as an Speech Language Pathologist by state in which practicing
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR certification in accordance state regulations
