    Job Title: Substance Use Prevention Counselor - Part-time, grant funded position Job Group: Non-Union Pay Level: Non-exempt, Grade 21 Reports to: Building Principal Summary: Provides school-based substance abuse prevention, education, screening, intervention, and referral services to students. Coordinates efforts and interfaces with administrators, staff, parents, representatives of state and local agencies, service providers, and community members. Provides prevention strategies for staff and students; supports and provides positive influences and resources for students in recovery and/or in treatment programs. This position is part-time and may work up to 17 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. This position is grant funded and is contingent upon continued grant funding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and actively participates in the District's organized substance prevention effort in collaboration with students, staff, administration, and community-based agencies. Provides intervention and screening to students who have been identified as, or who may be, abusing substances. Identifies internal and external resources for support and makes referrals, as needed, for a variety of services such as: state agencies, local physicians, Department of Children and Families (DCF), courts, and mental health counselors. Assists students with adopting appropriate coping mechanisms and techniques for managing issues such as: stress, trauma, family/personal and school-related adjustments, peer pressure, and other challenges impacting learning. Plans, coordinates, and provides educational and training services to students, staff, and greater school community (including PK-8 and sending towns) in areas of substance abuse, interpersonal skills, and stress management. Counsels students in groups or individually. Establishes and maintains student, parental, and community resource connections through communication and collaboration to meet student needs and to educate students and parents/guardians about resources available in the District and in the community. Arranges and facilitates afterschool and evening events for students and/or parents/guardians. Provides aftercare services to students in transition to and from treatment. Works with parents/guardians, health educators, and school nurses to support students in tobacco/vape/nicotine cessation activities. Works with families to address substance-related issues. As needed, participates in school-based support teams (i.e., MTTS, Act 264) and collaborates with others in school-related activities to increase awareness of prevention programming. Promotes student self-referrals to prevention programs through the establishment of safe and supportive relationships. Provides Leadership Team with monthly reports regarding prevention activities and follow up with respect to school/district policy compliance procedures. Maintains a visible presence during the school day, especially during unstructured times. Adheres to preferred practice and ethical standards. Maintains appropriate, accurate, and complete records as required for data reports and analysis. Maintains confidentiality of client as required by state and federal rules and regulations. Participates in and/or coordinates work related meetings, committees, and special projects. Remains current in best practice and participates in professional development opportunities. Attends after school events on and off school property where there is an increased risk of student substance use, such as school dances and evening events on and off school property. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Education and/or Experience: Master's degree preferred, Bachelor's degree required in a human services (i.e., counseling, social work, psychology, or an allied mental health field with a supervised clinical practicum). One or more years of experience in planning and coordinating substance abuse prevention program or direct prevention work required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver's license; certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (ADC), Clinical Supervisor [CS, or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)] preferred but not required. Other Skills and Abilities: Experience with substance abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery methods. Working knowledge of the emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues of students served. Demonstrated skills in computer use, decision making, negotiations, organization, and planning are required. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies. Working cooperatively and effectively with people of all ages, diversity, and learning levels. Cultural competency, a passion for identifying barriers and developing plans to assist student learning is required. You will play an essential role in the person-centered treatment of adults with severe mental illness. The facility is over 17,000 square feet with a separate full-size gymnasium. Residential Counselor duties involve the care a treatment of the residents within the facility and out in the community. Residential Counselors provide education, support with life skills and milieu management, Residential Counselors support residents to appointments in the community, activities and various community visits. Duties include co-facilitating groups and activities. Residential Counselors observe resident behavior and respond therapeutically with the aim to facilitate community inclusion, independence, and skill acquisition. There are 3 separate levels within this job class. Although some job duties are shared throughout the job class, there are differences in some responsibilities including expectations around the facilitation of groups, leadership roles on the floor, etc. We are currently recruiting for the day and night shift. There is a pay rate shift differential given to those who work weekend and as well as those who work nights (6:30 pm - 7:00 am). Night shift is $4.00 for all shifts worked and both shifts receive a weekend differential of $1.50/hour. Included in these services are providing direct diagnosis and treatment to patients as well as case management duties such as: consultation with primary care and other referring providers in the community; assessment for admission; clinical evaluation and diagnosis of mental health disorders in conjunction with DSM and ICD 10 codes; coordination of services with Crisis and inpatient psychiatric providers if needed, prior to inpatient admission and in acute after care following discharge; both outside and internal to the Department of Psychiatry in this or other affiliates; daily/weekly case presentation at internal rounds; contact with significant collateral members of the patient support network; establishment of clinically appropriate post-treatment aftercare plan and contact with community providers/agencies/resources. Timely and accurate documentation is a must. Proficiency with Clinical Hypnosis or completion of training within the first 12 months of employment is required. The mental health clinician is responsible for formulating the plan of care and coordinating treatment for the patient while in the program. The clinician is also responsible for treatment plan updates, after care planning and written documentation of the discharge plan, including all treatment interventions provided while the patient was in our care. Able to demonstrate professional flexibility and effectively coordinate high acuity patient care with multiple providers within and outside of our health network. EDUCATION: * Applicant must have a necessary education (Master's degree minimum in a related field). Applicant must hold current State of Vermont Clinical Social Worker License or Clinical Mental Health Counselor License. Conduct task analysis and data collection on student performance. Maintain working files and gather and record a variety of data related to student performance, progress, and behavior. Participate in team meetings, upon request, to assist in developing student plans, assessing and evaluating student needs, and progress. Confer with teachers, families, and administrators, as appropriate, concerning various matters pertaining to the students. Administer first aid and CPR if necessary. Such could include implementing non-aversive, restrictive behavior interventions in accordance with established school district policy, state regulations, and protocols, as necessary. Attend and participate in all relevant training sessions, meetings, and professional growth activities as requested and/or required. Assist with the transportation of assigned students, as requested. Process routine communications, such as parent logs, permission slips, meeting reminders, staff meeting notices, and the like. Implement instructional and behavioral programs for students, under the general direction of classroom and/or special education teachers. This includes working with students, both individually and in small groups, in a variety of academic areas and life skills. Implement and practice behavior support plans and programs for and with students. Assist and/or instruct students in basic life and functional skills. Supervise student(s) in various settings. Implement or assist in implementing a variety of assistive and medical therapy, as directed. These may include, but are not limited to, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and administering medications as needed under the direction of the school nurse.
