The apprentice opening in Colby, KS will provide the opportunity for you to assist with inspection and repairs of transmission lines and substation sites under the direct supervision of a journey or higher-level Line Technician. If you are an experienced Journey Line Technician, you will inspect, maintain, and/or repair or replace equipment and/or associated transmission property to ensure locations are safe for authorized staff. Learn to perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the assigned vehicle in accordance with Company policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges and controls are in proper working order. Report any safety issues on standard reports. Learn to safely operate a heavy or commercial truck along a designated route and to the disposal site; read route sheet, follow map and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by the dispatcher and/or supervisor. Learn to operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility. Learn to identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers in accordance with applicable departmental procedures. Learn to continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste. Continuously monitor the condition of any assigned vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip. Follow all required safety policies and procedures. After obtaining a CDL, perform all responsibilities of a Driver in one of the Company's lines of business (i.e., Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Roll-Off). Position Summary: The Safety Intern assists with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of programs, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency and severity of accidental loss in the areas of worker's compensation, general and auto liability, and property. The Safety Intern also assists in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulation, which is designed to protect the human, financial, and physical assets of the company while creating a company-wide safety culture through risk assessments and safety training programs. Safety Intern Duties and Responsibilities: Performs regular physical inspection of company grounds, buildings, equipment, and operations; identifies hazards and incidents of regulatory non-compliance, and recommends corrective measures. Implements controls for identified hazards to maintain compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information as well as assist in new employee safety orientation. Assist in daily activities regarding injury management and workers compensation issues. Maintains site required documentation related to safety issues such as accident reports, inspection reports, and training logs. Conduct accident investigations and facilitate the return to work program. Coordinates emergency response and first aid systems as needed. May perform other duties as assigned.
