The Biomedical Technician is responsible for overseeing the overall operational condition, maintenance and repair of all water treatment equipment, all medical equipment and mechanical/electrical systems to ensure patient safety and the safety of all staff operating such equipment for their assigned clinic(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.
Demonstrate effective use of supplies and staff labor hours.
Assist with purchasing as needed: place orders, perform weekly and month end inventory counts.
Be familiar with the overall procedures used in Inventory Control (FIFO) and assist in the documentation and control of excess inventory.
Perform duties as assigned to meet the patient care or operational needs of the clinic.
Troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment as recommended by the manufacturer.
Repair, calibrate, test, clean and disinfect dialysis machines, water distribution loop and RO's according to protocol.
Perform water quality checks to include but not limited to: free chlorine, total chlorine, and water hardness testing.
Perform safety checks and tests on all pretreatment water equipment including but not limited to carbon tanks, water softeners, RO units, UV lamps and ultrafilters.
Collect samples of RO water and dialysate for microbiology testing according to protocol.
Collect water samples for AAMI analysis testing according to protocol.
Disinfection of central bicarbonate system and mixing tank according to protocol.
Disinfection of RO, distribution system, and hemodialysis machines according to protocol.
Perform duties at all times within limitations established by and in accordance with company policy and procedures, applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Perform electrical safety on dialysis machines and related equipment.
Be familiar with instruction manuals and operation for equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Be capable of starting up and shutting down facility's equipment if necessary.
Maintain established preventative maintenance programs and required support documentation.
Maintain accurate maintenance records for the facility's equipment.
Have knowledge of the function and safe operation of water treatment equipment and related mechanical and electrical systems.
Address physical environment issues which could impact patient and staff safety.
Mix bicarbonate solution according to protocol. Mix acid concentrate solution according to protocol.
Assist in receiving, storing and stocking of supplies.
Be familiar with all emergency equipment and emergency operational procedures.
Use appropriate safety measures including personal protective equipment as necessary.
Be familiar with OSHA regulations.
Update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as required.
Be aware of all contracts and contacts necessary for the emergency repair of the clinic's equipment and mechanical systems.
Obtain quotes from reputable and approved contractors as needed to address physical environment issues.
Present technical summaries in QAPI meetings.
Maintain collaborative working relationship with Administrator(s). Partner with Administrator(s) to ensure clinic needs are met.
Actively promote GUEST customer service standards; develop effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
Respond effectively to inquiries or concerns.
Participate in staff meetings as required. Attend in-service and continuing education offerings in compliance with company policy and procedure.
Complete initial and annual technical training on clinical staff as required.
Instruct staff in use and care of equipment and answer questions.
Participate in team concepts and promote a team effort.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Valid driver' license in applicable state. License must be maintained as current, without restrictions and good driving record.
Previous dialysis, hospital, or medical experience preferred.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.

**DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:**
**CUSTOMER SERVICE:**
+ Responsible for driving the FMS culture through values and customer service standards.

**PATIENT CARE:**
+ Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate - Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), and regarding disease process/access.
+ Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment. Report any complaints or observations to the nurse supervisor.
+ Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight. Report unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties in cannulation or unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
+ Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
+ Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
+ Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment - document.
+ Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
+ Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access - standing & sitting blood pressure.

+ Responsible for ensuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160.
+ ·Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification.
+ Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and, if applicable, progress notes.
+ Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the nurse supervisor.
+ Observe patient, and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy. Report any change or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
+ Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention.
+ Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous monitoring pressures, provide appropriate intervention as needed, document and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
**MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:**
+ Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics - ensure all areas are safe and clean.
+ Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
+ Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate.
+ Perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
+ Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
+ Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to facility policy.
+ Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
**CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE:**
+ Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
+ Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented, and ensure omitted entries are completed or corrected where appropriate.
+ Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement in chart.
+ Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat Lab specimens according to laboratory destination.
+ Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab samples according required laboratory specifications.
+ Ensure collection of lab specimens by appropriate lab courier.
**OTHER:**
Perform additional duties as assigned.
**EDUCATION:** **(as of April 14, 2010)**
+ Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification or High school diploma or G.E.D. and must meet certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline.

**EXPERIENCE:**
+ Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
+ Employees have to meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.

To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. Surgical Responsibilities:
Assist Surgeon during consultations and treatment.
Basic lab duties (Impressions, pouring up/trimming models).
Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols
Autoclave operation and function
Surgical tray set-up
Identification of instruments used in the clinic.
Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
Seat patient and perform pre-op set-up.
Review charts.
Nitrous oxide set-up.
Properly positioning restraints.
Support airway for sedated patients.
Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
Excellent patient care & communication.
Non-Surgical Responsibilities:
Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms.
Take vital signs.
Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.)
Aware of and in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. personal protection)
Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
Make follow up phone calls to patients.
May take X-Rays.
Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Great organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8-hour shift

Special Requirements:
Working on-site is essential to the function of this position.
Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum.
Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding, may lift up to 25 lbs.
