Organizes and instructs a specialized recreation class or program, developing specific program outcomes. Explains and demonstrates instructional techniques to participants. Ensures that participants are engaged and that the class abides by industry standards relative to the subject area. Motivates all class participants to accomplish the program or personal goals.
Prepares instructional materials and supplies. Sets up and cleans up room/area. Distributes, collects, inspects, and accounts for equipment. Demonstrates proper use of equipment.

Typical Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), prior experience in the recreation field preferred; or, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide specialized instruction. A minimum of three moths of experience instructing the specialized class/skill or three years of experience participating at a high level in the specialized skill/class is strongly preferred.

Day In The Life of a SwimInstructor:
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs provided by the Y.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands of Work
Work is primarily outside in uncontrolled climates with exposure to natural elements and high temperatures or hazardous conditions depending on where the employee is needed to work. Work is described as standing: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, and data entry at computer terminal.

Goldfish Swim School follows all CDC and WHO safety standards along with following any local guidelines. In addition, here are some additional safety precautions and procedures we follow:
Every shift has an on-staff cleaner to sanitize high touch areas in our lobby and pool areas
Our pools are disinfected with chlorine to provide the safest swimming environment
The CDC states that proper operation, maintenance and disinfection of the water with chlorine should remove or inactivate the virus
Our state-of-the-art ventilation system allows fresh air to continuously circulate into our building, further minimizing the spread of any airborne virus
Industry experts note that indoor pools are far superior at minimizing virus transmission than most indoor spaces

The YMCA is looking for Swim Lesson Instructors to work with children and adults. Candidates must be organized, creative and enjoy working in a team environment. We will train new employees on how to teach a variety of skill levels from beginner to advanced swimmer using games and student centered learning.
Schedules vary depending on the program.
Essential job functions include:
Prepare to teach each class with provided progressive lesson plans which will enhance the experience of program participants.
Record and maintain attendance records. Set up facility or equipment, and store equipment upon completion of class.
Accurately complete all administrative duties relating to swim lessons i.e. skill sheets, progress reports, etc.
Enforce aquatic rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of class participants.
Act as a secondary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
Attend staff meetings.
Report injuries and complete required forms.
Immediately notify a supervisor of any broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool.
Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor or the person responsible for those items at your site.
Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to managing visitors and guests at our facilities.
Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
Support the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention .
Qualifications
At least 16 years of age
Experience working with children preferred
YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire; we will train
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid Certification and Emergency Oxygen preferred; certification required within 90 days of hire
Desire to work with individuals of all ages and swimming abilities
Strong organizational, verbal, written and customer service skills
