It is an integral part of The School of Life Sciences (SLS), which also includes the departments of Biochemistry & Biophysics, and Integrative Biology. Classroom instruction is mostly associated with COS, while research activities support the mission of both colleges. Research by department faculty encompasses a wide range of topics in environmental and pathogenic microbiology. Currently, the department includes 12 tenure-track faculty, 4 instructors, 4 professional advisors, and approximately 150 majors in Microbiology, 700 majors in BioHealth Sciences, and 33 graduate students. Several tenure-track faculty members share appointments with other units, including the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and Department of Statistics.
