Capacity to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, push, move, or carry 50 pounds or more while performing training or actual rescue, moving equipment, and/or supplies. Moderate exposure to chemicals such as chlorine, cleaning solvents, grease, fumes, airborne particles, etc. Ability to spend the majority of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions, including high heat and humidity. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING The ideal candidate will be service oriented, dependable and reliable, with a strong sense of safety and responsibility for the teaching and care of children and adults. Previous experience interacting with children is preferred. Must be 15 or older with reliable transportation to and from work. Confident in ability to swim and comfortable in the water for long periods of time. Confident in instructing swim lessons for individuals of all ages and abilities. Ability to focus for periods of time with attention to detail is essential. Strong and effective communication skills with the ability and desire to provide quality customer service is essential. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, weekends, and holidays. Ellis and Associates Lifeguard certified, or willing to become certified within 30 days of hire (training provided by the Glen Ellyn Park District). Proficient in MS Outlook or other email system for communication, with aptitude to learn and use other systems/applications. First Aid and CPR/AED certification required or able to obtain within 30 days of hire. PLEASE NOTE: Applicants under the age of 16 will be required to work within specific parameters and submit a Work Permit prior to starting work. Expectation is that all staff will be available for the entire pool season (or as close as possible) with a limit of one week of absence for a scheduled family vacation or similar that should be discussed at time of hire.
