ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General Statement of Job Under frequent supervision, provides effective and skillful swim instruction services for the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center, and assists in maintaining BMAC facilities and pools. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Provides supervision for students attending swim lessons by organizing and conducting classes according to the policies and procedures published by Jeff Ellis Swimming and the City of Kissimmee.
Responsible for administrative work including student progress reports, lessons plans, attendance records and other administrative work as needed.
Inspects the pool area, grounds, facilities and equipment for safety and proper condition.
Monitors the activities and behavior of swim lesson participants; ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Assists swimmers in danger, and performs CPR and provides First Aid as necessary.
Prepares accident/incident reports as required.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding BMAC programs and policies.
Operates a variety of pool equipment, including pool vacuums, pumps, and controller. Uses oxygen tank and various CPR/AED/First Aid/First Responder equipment. Exercises care and safety in the use and maintenance of assigned equipment and tools.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, lifeguards, swim participants, guests (children, parents, adults), Ellis & Associate Personnel, volunteers, and the general public.
Performs general pool and facility maintenance tasks. Cleans the pool deck, slides, windows, etc.; removes trash and debris. Performs general custodial and grounds maintenance tasks as necessary.
Performs general administrative/office duties as required; including attending meetings, assisting customers, answering the telephone, entering computer data, copying, and filling documents, faxing information, etc. Conducts registration for programs for the facility as well as collects fees and maintains records of moneys received; Rec Trac, as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age. Requires a junior high school diploma supplemented by a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High School graduate preferred. Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1 month of hire; Jeff Ellis Swimming Instructor Certification and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License or Florida ID. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Schedule: Hours and schedule varies depending on the time of the year, not to exceed on average of 28 hours per week. Nights, weekends and early mornings may be required.
Knowledge of Job: Has through knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks & Recreation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the swim instructor. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. What will be expected of you?
Availability for set groups of swim lessons (no half-shifts or mid-shifts available). Our instructors are scheduled based on set lesson times from:

Statement of Duties: This position is responsible for serving as a Swim Lesson Instructor at the town swimming pool, the operation and cleanliness of the pool and the adjoining facility in a safe and effective manner; teach swimming lessons, collects fees, responding to customer inquiries and providing information pertaining to the operation of the pool as necessary. Attend training programs in order to maintain certification requirements of the position.
Supervision Required: Under general supervision of the Aquatic Supervisors, the employee is familiar with the work routine and carries out recurring assignments independently with specific instruction. The supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult or unusual assignments, including suggested work methods. The employee is expected to recognize instances which are out of the ordinary and which do not fall within existing instructions; the employee is then expected to seek advice and further instructions. Supervisor reviews and checks of the employee's work and methods used are technically accurate and that instructions are being followed.

Essential Functions
· Co-Plans and implements programs, leagues, camps, clinics and classes which may include but are not limited to preschool, school age and pre-team.
· Works with coach to establish new program activities and expand programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
· Ensures proper building coverage is present for all program-related functions in accordance with program needs.

This is a part-time, permanent position. This is a great opportunity for an artist who would like to be able to offer classes, but does not have their own studio space to do so.
We are looking for instructors who:

Swim Instructors should have experience teaching swim lessons and enjoy working with people, especially children as many lesson opportunities are with children.
Key ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.
Report on the deck 15 minutes before the scheduled shift dressed in a bathing suit.
Have equipment ready before your class and store it promptly after your class. Make good use of available equipment, pool space, and personal resources.
All instructors must start and end classes on time.
Agree to teach for an entire session. Absenteeism MUST be kept to a minimum.
Communicate child's progress with parents on an ongoing basis, not just when handing out progress reports.
Adhere to all pool rules and policies. Begin the first class with a reminder of the rules, bathrooms, etc.
Know and implement any and all emergency procedures.
Maintain accurate attendance for each class as well as updated skill completions using all required forms. Any student missing 3 classes should be reported to the Aquatic Director.
Take notes as need on the strengths and weaknesses of each child in the class.
Maintain control and safety of the class. Keep a watchful eye on everyone in the class. All children in flotation should always be within arm's reach, and never turn your back on a class.
Exercise good judgment, competence in meeting the goals, objectives, needs and interest of the YMCA, the class as a whole and the individual student.
Incorporate all five-program components into each lesson: personal safety, water orientation/stroke development, water sports and games, rescue and personal growth.
Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with all supervisors.
Participate in all branch safety and quality drills
Attend all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings
Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
