The Safety Laboratories Department (SLD) is a part of the Vehicle Evaluation & Verification (VEV) organization, responsible for safety testing, including component, subsystem, and full vehicle crash testing to develop vehicle safety systems and demonstrate compliance to U.S. and global government safety regulations, as well as internal guidelines and requirements. The crash testengineer coordinates full-vehicle crash testing and provides engineering direction and support for the crash facilities.
**Position Duties:**
Crash TestEngineering
+ Coordinate full-vehicle crash tests for Regulatory and Corporate Safety/Public Design Guideline requirements.
+ Interface with requesting engineers and witness authority to verify test objectives and requirements and ensure all aspects of testing requirements are being met.
+ Lead team of technicians with test mode impact point and vehicle alignment.
+ Coordinate photographic technicians and sensor supplier support timing/process.
+ Work with dummy lab personnel to ensure that proper procedures are being followed for dummy positioning or to meet the customer specific needs.

+ Provide technical direction and support for crash facilities (winch drive, barrier wall, fuel roll rig), mechanical equipment (mobile barrier carts, moving tables, fixtures), and electrical equipment (data acquisition system, transducers, coordinate measuring machines). Help with the use of specialized or unique equipment, tools and configurations.
+ Resolve operational issues and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Work closely with lab personnel (unit supervisor, technologists and technicians) to identify and implement actions to improve operational quality, cost and timing. Provide support for the function and configuration of test control software and automated data processing tools. Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of lab metrics.
+ Work closely with Crash program requesters, the Automotive Safety Office (ASO), and other Safety Lab Department (SLD) testengineers to support vehicle program testing. Help resolve test capability and performance concerns and assess data for anomalous behavior. When necessary, complete root-cause analysis, non-conformance communication and response plans; document as 5D's when appropriate.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:Set-up, conduct and ensure the secure return of tests to instructors:· Effectively interact with instructors to provide information about testing procedures and faculty responsibilities. · Communicate with instructors for timely receipt of tests before students arrive for testing and with various faculty office staff to ensure tests are securely delivered to instructors.· Create and maintain a testing appointment calendar for initial tests and retests. · Schedule all computer and paper-based tests to comply with LSS procedures.Protect the integrity of testing:· Maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials, test logs and other test documents.· Follow instructor's test instructions.· Follow test administration procedures similar to the Testing Center.· Obtain tests from the Testing Center and academic/occupational departments as needed.· Troubleshoot any test error and computer issues with the Testing Center, Information Technology (IT) Department, LMS Support and LSS Assistive Technology Specialist.· Monitor individual students taking tests - paying close attention to cheating or prevention of cheating.· Immediately address any allegations or observations of cheating.· Ensure approved accommodations are provided for various types of tests. including entry assessment, industry or program entrance or certification tests.· Review testing instructions with students considering specific test requirements from faculty, guide students through online practice tests and secure logins.· Clarify approval of accommodations with LSS Program Specialists prior to testing.· Provide accommodations including acting as reader/scribe.· Provide an accessible physical environment.· Ensure and maintain a quiet, reduced distraction testing environment.· Work with students to explain testing procedures and student responsibilities when testing in LSS.· Maintain tests and instructions in a secure location.· Ensure coverage for time off and peak periods.· After planning schedule for proctors during peak periods, request approval and assignment of other staff for additional coverage from LSS Director. · Ensure all staff assisting during peak periods receive clear instructions.· Update processes and procedures timely. Keep updated on new and emerging technology related to test administration including accessibility software.· Work cooperatively with the LSS AT Specialist in setting up and troubleshooting accessibility for individual tests on an ongoing basis.· Utilize Accommodate to manage Testing Appointments and tracking.Track LSS testing activities:· Maintain and submit timely an accurate time log of time spent in all activities for payroll.· Compile and submit reports on activities to Director (including Monthly Reports, Perkins Annual Report and ad hoc reports as requested)..· Maintain hard copy files of Test Instructions to follow-up any questions.Oversee LSS testing procedures:· Provide clear communication and instructions for other staff when assisting with test administration particularly during peak periods.· Create updates of the Learning Support Services website with testing procedures, forms, information and responsibilities for both students and instructors.· Identify and update process improvements to meet needs of students, instructors and testing administration including providing updated procedures.· Update procedures for test administration and use of assistive technology. Provide written guidelines for LSS staff to follow.· Create forms for use in test administration and to support test administration processes.· Keep updated on test administration changes.· Perform other duties as assigned.· Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.Hours/Schedule:This is a part time position that will work between 20-25 hours per week with varying days and hours. Hours are between 8 AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday and 6 PM on Tuesdays. Start time and scheduled hours will need to be flexible to cover testing particularly during peak periods.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:· At least (15) fifteen hours of college level course work including experience with basic Office programs and demonstrated experience with Excel, Word and Outlook.· At least three (3) years clerical or administrative assistant experience. · Demonstrated ability in spelling, grammar, filing, data maintenance, basic math and telephone etiquette.· Accurate keyboarding skills at 30 wpm.· Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.· Professional, effective and courteous written and oral communication.· Problem solving and responsible decision making particularly during stressful or peak periods (midterms/finals).· Accuracy and attention to detail.· Ability to work under pressure, particularly during peak times for administering tests, making responsible and effective decisions under pressure, including peak/demanding periods.· Work independently.· Effectively and courteously communicate and interact with students with disabilities, staff and instructors.· Ensure the integrity, confidentiality and security of the testing process in LSS.
