Daylily Animal Hospital has an opportunity for a Full Time experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! Clinic Hours: M-F: 7am-6pm Sat: 8am-5pm Sun: 9am-4pm Rotating Weekends Required Compensation: $17 - $22/hr depending on experience!
Technical:Assist veterinarians with veterinary medicine and surgery in any appropriate capacity • Obtain and record patient histories, vital signs, and weights • Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for reference labs • Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. • Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the veterinarian; use and maintain IV pump. • Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian. • Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals. • Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials. • Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthesia machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition. • Communicate with and educate owners in a compassionate, tactful, professional manner • Take radiographs - processes rads, demonstrates proper positioning techniques • Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter procedures, and boarding. • Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use. • Perform client callbacks • Assist kennel staff • Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with veterinarians • Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
Lab:• Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems • Maintain quality controls and record keeping on in-house lab equipment • Complete proper sample preparation and paperwork for reference lab tests • Fill prescriptions per veterinarians' instructions; double-check for accuracy; have another employee sign (two signatures on each prescription that leaves our hospital)
Surgery:• Admit patients scheduled for anesthetic procedures • Keep surgical materials stocked; prepare gown and surgical packs or oversee this process • Check oxygen lines and waste gas scavenger system; turn off scavenger system a er surgical procedures are completed • Prepare surgery suite for surgery in collaboration with surgery assistant • Prepare instruments; know type of surgical instruments required for specific surgeries • Perform induction/intubation and all pre-anesthetic procedures, including patient prep • Monitor patients post-operatively • Clean surgery suite and instruments following hospital sterilization protocols • Keep accurate anesthesia/surgical medical records; • Accurately calculate and record all medications and injections administered • Ensure all surgery patients go home well-groomed and in an appropriate medical state
Job Summary: The Veterinary Assistant aids and supports the medical support team in the operation of an animal facility in accordance with Mission Veterinary Partners (MVP) hospital policy and procedures. The Veterinary Assistant also provides medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* High School Diploma or equivalent required.
* Prior experience in a veterinary environment required
* Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
* Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast pacedenvironment.
* Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
* The employee must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the dutiesproficiently.
* The employee must also be confident around pets.
Physical Requirements:
* The employee must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
* The employee must be able to endure sitting, standing, and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.
* The employee must be Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
* The employee will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
* The employee must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in hospital environment.The employee must have specific vision abilities which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
* The employee must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.

Job Summary:
The radiology assistant plays a key role in supporting the hospital's diagnostic imaging services and overall patient care. Overview:
Exam Assistants are required to assist the practitioners and Licensed Veterinary Technicians to the fullest possible extent, to help improve the quality of care given to the patients of Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center and to aid in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. This position requires flexibility to assist in many areas while timely managing major responsibilities.

Major Duties
Assist Technicians and Doctors with exams by setting up for and cleaning up between each patient.
Enter charges, notes, and estimates for exams and rechecks as directed by the Technician or Doctor.
Assist with restraint and follow all safety protocols set in place.
Assist Technicians with patient care. This includes, but is not limited to: patient restraint, vitals, etc.
Assist Technicians when transporting patients to MRI/CT or procedure, radiology or recovery. Help with moving the patient and attaching monitors to the patient.
Assist doctors in exam rooms by escorting clients to exam rooms, obtaining patient's history from clients and recording it on patient's medical record, obtaining and recording patient's temperature and weight, assist doctor with patient's examination.
Assist with ultrasounds if needed
Assist with patient treatments as directed by your Tech lead
Help with end of day duties.
Check PPE for damage. Radiograph gowns, thyroid shields and gloves yearly.
Assist in keeping patients clean and dry at all times
Clean the radiology suite (between patients and daily cleaning of the floor, and areas around the table, shelve, and computer). Hair should be vacuumed from behind the radiology table weekly at a minimum.
Clean CT suite. Vacuum around and under CT machine and table weekly at a minimum.
Help Technicians and Doctors with outpatients or patients being discharged. This may include patient restraint, assisting with bandage changes, checking hygiene of a patient before it leaves or assisting clients with a patient.
Additional Duties
Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as PCV, TP, Azostix and blood chemistries utilizing Idexx analyzers. Urine samples for laboratory analysis and submitting samples to Antech Lab. Prepare samples for shipment to off site laboratories and prepare all laboratory request forms. Maintain file of lab test results and ensure patient records have test results recorded in them.
Convey information in an accurate and professional way
Recognize the limits of your knowledge. If you are not absolutely confident that you know the answer to a client's question, do not answer it. Ask another staff member for help.
Make notes in patient files or the computer record of all relevant phone or in-person conversations with clients. Initial all entries.
Help maintain anesthesia machines and monitors.
Access digital radiographs utilizing Qlink software.
Operate portable and stationery digital radiography units.
Accurately record, maintain and review medical records by recording daily treatment plans (including nights, weekends and holidays), all diagnostics, patient progress notes and recording services or goods on the medical record with attached fees for invoicing.
Communicate patient status to doctors, other Technicians, and clients.
Collect blood and urine samples for laboratory analysis, prepare all laboratory request forms, and submit samples to Antech Lab.
Report all service and maintenance issues on all equipment in Internal Medicine, Surgery, ICU, kennel and pharmacy including but not limited to: Idexx chemistry machines, oxygen/environmental cage and heated cages to the Tech Lead/ Supervisor.
Assist other PCP's when necessary.
Prepare for next days treatments by restocking supplies in Surgery, Pharmacy, or any other area of the hospital that is needed.
Prepare patients for discharge, being especially careful to ensure that patients being discharged are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
Maintain cleanliness and order in all areas of the hospital.
Perform daily and weekly cleaning duties.
Assist with inventory; inform inventory manager as needed about items that need to be ordered, unpack boxes of medical supplies, check packing list and expiration dates, rotate stock and store.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Animal Technology or related field preferred.
Certification (RVT, CVT, LVT, CVA) preferred.
Experience in a veterinary setting required.

Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, assistants will maintain patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring vital parameters, help monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility.
* Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by doctor), safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.
* Under direction of the HOM/HLOD, assist in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
* Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.

Nature of Supervision
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the incumbent will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Veterinary Technician. Operate washer and dryer to clean pet belongings, towels, etc. Ensure belongings are returned to the appropriate pet.
Ensure the facility meets or exceeds our expectations with regards to cleanliness and safety. Clean and sanitize all pet enclosures, exercise yards, and common areas. Mix and use disinfectants and other chemicals safely as instructed by the supervisor.
Ensure that the property is maintained (lawn care, snow removal, tree maintenance)
Alert manager when levels of inventory are low in the following areas: pet foods, cleaning products for kennel and lobby areas
Help maintain the cleanliness of the property by picking up and disposing of trash or debris. Keep aisles, drains, carts, shelves, sinks, floors, furniture, counters and glass clean, sanitary and free of clutter/debris. Empty and sanitize trash cans and receptacles.
Alert manager of any safety or operational issues ie: broken guillotine doors, burnt-out lights, not enough salt for snowy areas, etc.
Keep informed of important notices, meetings, etc. by consulting the "Guest Services Command Center"

Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to assist with employee training and evaluations to ensure patients consistently receive the highest level of care. Our goal is to deliver consistent communication to our employees, so this position will act as an extension of the management team to ensure changes are going into effect seamlessly. Any questions and feedback will be reported to the Director, if necessary, adjustments will be made. The Supervising technician will recognize non-routine or unusual situations and refer them to the Director with recommended solution(s).
What You'll Do
Direct technicians/assistants towards necessary duties to fulfill shift requirements and responsibilities.
Direct Patient traffic to maximize use of available technician time.
Give complete rounds to incoming staff.
Ensure accuracy of medications being filled and sent home with check system.

Knowledge of shock protocols, toxicities, transfusion setup, and anesthetic monitoring.
Accurate medical record documentation and EMR proficiency.

Experience working with dogs preferred
Experience working in an office / reception role preferred
Ability to work weekends and holidays required
Consistently supervise animals during various activities
