Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled full time Associate Veterinarian to join our dedicated staff and serve our growing client community! Key Responsibilities
Comprehensive patient exams and medical work-ups
Client communication and education
Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery
Maintaining accurate medical records
Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications to patients and following controlled substance protocols
Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge
Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to be sure the highest standards are being upheld
Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications (Required)
Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
Current State Veterinary License
DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice
Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
Excellent surgical and dental skills.
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care.
Excellent Communication Skills and the ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff.
Client communication skills, must be able to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations with pet owners.
Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain.
May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work.
Position does require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Racing Division of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a Seasonal Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian. Under the direction of the Chief Commission Veterinarian, this position is responsible for maintaining relevant Commission paperwork and eligibility lists; and supervising the Testing Area. Commission Blood Gas Testing Veterinarians have an indispensable role in ensuring that the quality and integrity of racing in the Commonwealth remains high. The anticipated dates of service are April through November.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain relevant Commission paperwork.
Collect pre-race blood samples from race horses.
Ensure that each sample is properly sealed immediately in the presence of the testing assistant and trainer's representative.
Ensure that all samples are properly secured and that all documentation is complete and provides continuity of evidence.
Monitor activities of occupational licensees for compliance with 205 CMR 3.00 or 4.00.
Perform any other duties that the Chief Commission Veterinarian may assign.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission may schedule the Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian on an as needed basis depending on the schedule of live racing days at the track to which the Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian is assigned. The Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian may be required to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays. The Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian shall be compensated by the hour for a minimum of 5 hours per day scheduled. The minimum daily compensation is only applicable if the Blood Gas Testing Veterinarian is able to complete all tasks assigned for that day, otherwise compensation will be adjusted for actual hours worked.
The successful candidate must pass an extensive background check conducted by the Massachusetts State Police. It includes a full credit check, CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), fingerprinting, drug test, reference checks, review of IRS Income Tax Transcripts for the last four years, and a Certificate of Good Standing from the Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue (DOR).
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011) and regulatory oversight of G.L. chapter 23K (casino gaming), chapter 23N (sports wagering), and chapter 128A (horse racing). Under these laws, the Commission is tasked with establishing a regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor only license, the provision of in-person and digital sports wagering, and the live and simulcasting of horse racing in Massachusetts.

Job Description

Job Description
Primary Duties:
1. Provide veterinary care for all species used in research and development.
• First line evaluation of clinical cases to all species on site
• Initiate diagnostics and treatment in consultation with veterinarian.
• Communicate cases progress, treatment and recommendation to the PI/Scientist in conjunction with the veterinarian
• Monitor treatment and progress
• Preventive medicine such as rodent health monitoring program, microbiology, disease surveillance
• After hours, weekend, and holiday clinical coverage as needed
• Maintain stocks of clinical supplies and medicines including DEA controlled substances
• Arrange for maintenance of clinical equipment
• Maintain sanitation in treatment and surgery facilities
• Clinical record keeping in compliance with SOP, IACUC guidelines and applicable regulations
2. Animal welfare enhancement
• Behavioral monitoring in all species
• Promoting the 3 R's (Reduction, Refinement, Replacement)
3. Surgery and anesthesia
• Provide anesthesia and surgery support to all species on site
• Provide complete peri-operative care and support
4. Collaborative scientific efforts
• Project participation and level 1-3 technical support such as dose administration, blood and tissue collection, vascular access port maintenance
Qualifications
Preference would be for an individual with a BS in Biology/Microbiology (or similar).
• Lab experience (or small scale fermentation experience) is a very strong preference.
• Need someone that wouldn't need to necessarily be taught the basics of GMP and GLP (i.e., good documentation practices, basic Micro lab skills, etc.).
• So, a minimum of at least 2-5 years of experience would probably be ideal. If the person has sound lab experience, but not necessarily within the industry, I would not necessarily discount them.
• In this situation, the basic lab/micro knowledge is what is the most critical piece, in addition to being able to work independently as needed.
Additional Skills:
• BS in Biology/Microbiology
• At least 2 - 5 years lab/GMP experience REQUIRED

Requirements:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD/BVMS)
Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license
Able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 100 lbs with assistance
Candidates will be subject to a background and motor vehicle record check, post-hire and before their associated start date.
