Schedule
This is a full-time position (35-40 hours per week).
We're open Monday through Friday and every other Saturday.
We believe in true work-life balance and offer flexible, consistent scheduling whenever possible.
Compensation
$19-$24 per hour, based on experience.
What You'll Do
As a key member of our medical team, your responsibilities will include:
* Assisting veterinarians during exams and procedures, ensuring safe and effective animal restraint
* Performing pre-physical tasks (weights, temperatures, histories, reason for visit)
* Administering prescribed medications, vaccines, treatments, and assisting with dental cleanings
* Monitoring anesthesia and patient vitals following established safety protocols
* Obtaining and positioning radiographs
* Monitoring surgical patients during recovery
* Running in-house lab tests (bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal analysis)
* Providing emergency first aid and life-saving support when needed
* Preparing and labeling samples for laboratory testing
* Maintaining and sterilizing equipment and instruments
* Preparing patients for surgery, including IV catheter placement and clipping
* Filling prescriptions and accurately labeling medications
* Keeping exam rooms and treatment areas clean and organized
* Collaborating with veterinarians and support staff to ensure excellent patient care and client communication

The Hospital
We are a stand-alone hospital with the capacity to support six doctors. Our facility includes:
Six exam rooms
Two dental stations and two surgical tables
ICU capabilities
Kennel/boarding facility with a turf backyard
Fully stocked pharmacy and a dedicated DVM office with library access
The hospital is well equipped with digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, Tonovet tonometer, multiparameter monitoring (including ETCOâ‚‚), a surgical laser, and an electrocautery unit. We operate paperlite/paperless and prioritize keeping equipment current, with openness to adding new tools as needs evolve.

Each doctor works with dedicated technician support, and all team members are Fear Free Certified. Our doctor team collaborates closely and meets regularly to share knowledge and support one another.

Examples of Duties
Oversee the health of all animals at St. Louis County's animal shelter.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Answer medical questions over the phone
* See patients right away as part of the VEG Triage and VEG Spikes, our unique, customer-centered way of doing things-like ensuring people see a doctor right away and allowing families to stay with their pets
* Gather the signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and physical exam
* Conduct physical examinations of animals, along with other required investigatory measures such as ultrasounds, X-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies
* Complete a diagnosis of each pet's condition to create a diagnostic and therapeutic plan
* Communicate diagnosis and treatment options directly with customers
* Prepare estimates and present them to customers
* Create and review medical records to ensure accuracy
* Demonstrate the value of tests and treatments performed by speaking with the customer and addressing their concerns
* Perform minor and major emergency surgeries

* Educate customers on after care and preventative measures where appropriate

Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
Maintain patients' medical records.
Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications
DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
Appropriate state licensure.
Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
