What You'll Do: Know Business Demands. Become thoroughly familiar with the day's business demands by reviewing schedule and individual customer orders and the beginning of and continuously during shifts. Direct Loading and Delivery. Direct Plant Operators, Loader Operators, Drivers, or Batch Plant Operators regarding which material to load on trucks. Direct Drivers regarding which customer job site to receive delivery. Follow Loading Procedures. Weigh Company and non-company trucks on truck scale before and after being loaded with aggregate products. Write or print delivery tickets for all loads of material leaving the yard. Report Issues. Immediately report any delivery problems to service or sales representatives for quick resolution or mitigation. Receive Customer Orders. Receive customer orders, mostly by telephone, but also from drivers on Company radio, service or sales representatives over radio or in person, and occasionally by customers in person. Assist customers in identifying proper products needed for specific end uses. Advise customers on Company order confirmation and delivery policies. Record customer orders on order form and in schedule book as received. Determine Schedules. Tactfully balance cost effective delivery times and rates for Company with customer demands. Make schedule for drivers for next business day in correspondence with customer order requirements. Complete Daily Reports. Complete reports daily on product sales, product allowances and adjustments, delivery problems, and other matters. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. General Summary This is a three to four month assignment where you will assist a Project Team with the management, field construction activities and documentation of a project. Essential Job Accountabilities Communicate with Foremen and Superintendent to learn about field construction operations and to provide support. Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, & the local community. Assist with the Project Environmental, Health, Safety requirements. Assist the Project Engineer with approving time cards in HeavyJob. Ensure all equipment and employees are accounted for on timecards. Assist with verifying quantities in FIS (Field Information Systems) and log quantities for cost and revenue tracking. Assist the Project Engineer with generating and distributing daily cost reports (trucking, labor, equipment) to the Project Manager, Foreman & Superintendent. Assist with the completion of daily reports documenting both Granite Construction and Subcontractor activities. Place necessary material orders, survey requests, locates, etc. Maintain a to-do list and diary. Assist with the calculations of yields of materials used such as concrete, aggregate base & asphalt. Tour jobsite daily with the Project Manager or Engineer to verify quantities claimed are correct and to stay current on overall job progress. Additional responsibilities as needed. JOB SUMMARY Operates asphalt plant to produce materials used in construction: Moves controls on panel board or control board to heat, dry, and mix ingredients, such as asphalt, sand, stone, and naphtha, to produce asphalt paving materials. Observes gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications. May repair machinery, using handtools, power tools, and welding equipment. GENERAL STATEMENT OF CLASS DUTIES Operates asphalt plant for the production of hot mix asphalt and other mix designs used in the construction and maintenance of roadways. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position reports directly to an Operations Supervisor that supervises non-supervisory and/or working supervisory employees involved in the operation of the asphalt plant and mixing of aggregate material. The Plant Operator may also share or be responsible for the loading of aggregate material into hopper duties typical of a Heavy Equipment Operator and in yard operations and maintenance duties typical of a Senior/Utility Worker position. Guidelines, Difficulty and Decision Making Level: Guidelines are generally numerous, well established and directly applicable to the work assignment. Work assignment and desired results are explained by general oral or written instructions. Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy.
