Purpose
Ability to machine, mill, and grind various types of metals. Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts. Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader and a Maintenance Machinist A. Reports directly to the department Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Performs all tasks under general supervision.
Provides training and assistance to less experienced Machinists.
Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
Creates and reworks machinery and equipment components according to requisition documentation, blueprints, or other drawings.
Sets up equipment operation feed, speed and temperature.
Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments.
Repairs maintenance parts as needed.
Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments.
Order and maintain project related material as required.
Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made.
Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required.
Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor.
Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.

Basic Requirements
Must pass the skilled trade assessment test for this position.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in proper machining and grinding techniques (Feed rates, sequencing, cutting speeds).

Job Description:
Operate various manual machine tools to machine parts from start to finish i.e., lathe, mill, press, etc.
Utilize micrometer, calipers, and other inspection tools
Perform first piece inspection subject to approval by the quality department
Interface with Engineering and quality to ensure product quality and specifications
Recommend necessary tooling and consumable supplies for each production job as needed
Actively pursue operational improvements to enhance quality, improve production, and initiate cost-reduction opportunities
Maintain a clean and organized workspace

Utilize material handling equipment to transport material between work centers and areas within the production area
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be able to read blueprints, CAD drawings, sketches, written instructions and interpret data
Experience in a job shop environment with rapid changeovers and short cycle times a plus

Assemble and weld parts and/or frames to print specifications and self-inspect finished product.
Align and clamp workpieces together, using rules, squares, or hand tools, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or vises.

MIG or TIG along adjoining edges of workpieces using appropriate equipment.
Grind, cut, buff, or bend edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using power grinders and hand tools.
Examine seams for defects and rework defective joints or broken parts.

Qualifications
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in the following areas;
Set up and fabricate complex precision parts to specifications using manual machine tools such as Bridgeport, Lathe, Surface grinders, drill press, boring bars, etc
Ability to set-up and run their own job.
Monitor the machining process, measure parts during fabrication operations and adjust settings and operations to ensure product conformance to all applicable specifications.
Proficient with the use of measurement instruments: micrometers, dial indicators, calipers etc.
Experience and ability to understand and interpret specifications, diagrams and plans
Highly motivated, detail oriented, self-sufficient with a “make it happen” attitude & approach.
Understanding of G-Code programming a plus.
Experience in part inspection, First Piece inspection.
Experience with Anilam, Prototrak or similar controls
Ability to perform programming using Conversational Prototrak Controls
Job shop environment a plus.

SUMMARY
This position welds fabricated components, per custom or stock specifications, for sale to customers in conjunction with customer quality requirements and United Alloy manufacturing philosophies. Monitoring welding performance and efficiency are essential.
HOURS: Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 3:00pm. Mandated overtime worked on Friday based on business need.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Can set up and weld in 1-2 weld work center(s)
Welds product using fixturing (if applicable) with minimal supervision
Utilizes hand tools, fixtures, and clamps for small welding applications
Can interpret basic elements of a blueprint, including welding symbols
Can identify types of joints and welds
Can meet UA weld aesthetic standards per customer specifications
Can set up and maintain welding machines including changing wire and monitoring gases
Can successfully perform a tank leak test
Can monitor and maintain welding consumable and supply stock
Understands cross check concepts and inspects product according to Inspection Control Plan
Accurately tags material and product according to WI-0002 Product Identification
Understands non-conforming process according to SOP-003
Follows all safety policies and standards
Maintains work center efficiency of 95%
Can maintain a high degree of quality, must not have excessive scrap
Understands and can use basic math principles including: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Accurately and efficiently perform all required PM on equipment
Able to successfully weld 1st articles and PPAPs
Capable and willing to train/mentor other welders
Can make minor repairs to equipment and support equipment
