Documents and flags allergies. Completes pre-procedure documentation in a legible and concise manner. Reviews history, physical and laboratory values provided by the physician. Checks and signs off the physician's orders. Performs/ensures laboratory tests ordered by physician are completed or drawn. Inserts IV and administers pre-procedure medications as ordered by physician. Keeps family members informed of any delays. Functions in role of scrub/circulator in some units and assists physician with procedures, handles specimens as per protocol. Post procedure care and discharge instructions as dictated by facility protocols. Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation in age appropriate manner, in accordance with facility protocols, and applicable advance directives. Advocates patient rights with respect to advance directives. Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements. Complies with accepted ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association or equivalent nursing organization.
