This Opportunity
Our Earth & Environment Team is seeking an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer to work out of our Anchorage, AK office.
Takes part in providing local geotechnical engineering assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, analysis, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
* Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, soil/water/sludge/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.

* Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics, and investigating subsurface and geological conditions to design and build foundations, earth structures, and pavement sub-grades.
* Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.
* Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Engineer in Training Certification.

Your Opportunity
Stantec's environmental services, wetland (aquatic resources) group is seeking a senior Environmental Scientist/Ecologist to lead environmental field surveys, reporting, and permitting support for our clients in the renewable energy, aggregate, mining, mineral exploration, community development and transportation sectors. The selected candidate will lead and direct a team of environmental professionals on environmental investigations including aquatic resource delineations, vegetation monitoring on mitigation and restoration sites, and jurisdictional determinations on waters of the United States in Alaska and the western United States. The selected candidate will apply their interest in Alaskan ecology to help train our staff on CWA permitting: wetlands, aquatic resources, vegetation, soils, streams, fish, birds, bats, wildlife, and endangered species. Experience with all of these specialties is not required; a candidate should show extensive experience in aquatic resource delineations with an understanding of the CWA Section 404 and 401 permits. T
This position will include opportunities for both field and office work. During the Alaskan winter it is primarily office based report writing mixed with GIS mapping tasks. During the summer it is a mixture of field and office work. Summer field work may involve potential helicopter, boat, ATV or vehicle travel up to two weeks at a time away from home. Field work is completed in teams with the senior environmental scientist serving as the technical lead. Logistics will be scheduled in advance to systematically progress required tasks.
The position is a full-time, 12-month non-seasonal position, with regularly scheduled office hours in Anchorage, Fairbanks or Wasilla. Remote hybrid work will be considered.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership on a wide variety of CWA permitting projects for energy, government, and mining sector clients;
* Organize and supervise the work of a technical team; provide direction to guide projects to successful completion; conduct quality review of work products;
* Complete CWA 404 and 401 permit applications including avoidance, minimization and compensatory mitigation;
* Ability to explain the CWA 404 permit program nuances to clients and staff;
* GPS data collection and support;
* ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications;

Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a bachelor's degree in an environmental discipline (biology, ecology, natural resources, soil science or related natural resources field) with demonstrated experience with biological surveys in the region. Experience of 10-15 years is desired, with experience leading field teams in natural resource inventories and surveys.
Must be comfortable with computers and Trimble hand-held GPS units or other similar GPS based survey equipment.

Stantec's environmental services, wetland (aquatic resources) group is seeking a senior Environmental Scientist/Ecologist to lead environmental field surveys, reporting, and permitting support for our clients in the renewable energy, aggregate, mining, mineral exploration, community development and transportation sectors. The selected candidate will lead and direct a team of environmental professionals on environmental investigations including aquatic resource delineations, vegetation monitoring on mitigation and restoration sites, and jurisdictional determinations on waters of the United States in Alaska and the western United States. The selected candidate will apply their interest in Alaskan ecology to help train our staff on CWA permitting: wetlands, aquatic resources, vegetation, soils, streams, fish, birds, bats, wildlife, and endangered species. This position will include opportunities for both field and office work. During the Alaskan winter it is primarily office based report writing mixed with GIS mapping tasks. During the summer it is a mixture of field and office work. Summer field work may involve potential helicopter, boat, ATV or vehicle travel up to two weeks at a time away from home. Field work is completed in teams with the senior environmental scientist serving as the technical lead. Logistics will be scheduled in advance to systematically progress required tasks.

Your Key Responsibilities
* Serve as a technical specialist and consultant to the transportation engineering discipline on transportation-related projects.
* Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of reports and the development of project design elements including plans, specifications, estimates, and related reports.
* Identify and analyze the principal design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project's purpose and the client's needs. Produce detailed, high-quality final design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
* Peer review plans and provide quality control reviews of technical specifications, contract documents, quantity calculations, and estimates.
* Mentor junior staff in technical design elements, Autodesk Civil 3D, and the development of project documents.
* Recent experience developing highway and/or aviation projects for the State of Alaska and local governments is desired. "

* Proficient in design of roadway/civil engineering projects including alignments, profiles, typical sections, site grading and drainage.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
* MS Office program experience, especially Word and Excel.

As an Intern for the West Region Environmental Services Group at Stantec, you can expect to carry out a variety of different tasks related to water resource management projects. Your Key Responsibilities
* Provide engineering support for projects involving erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
* Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
* Drafting, computer modeling, data entry, assistance with preparation of construction plans and specifications, quality control review of client construction storm water documentation.
* Assist in the preparation of design concept plans, permit packages, work plans, tables, figures, hydraulic calculations, erosion and sediment control plans, and associated post-construction stormwater management plans, and present information for quality review.
* Assist in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable regulations, codes and engineering standards and practices.
* Complete other engineering/administrative duties as required.
