How We Determined the Most Patriotic States
Patriotism is a multifaceted concept that can be expressed in various ways. For some, it means serving in the military, while for others, it involves community engagement.
We evaluated four key factors to rank each state from 1 to 50:

Percentage of residents who are veterans

Percentage of voting-age residents who voted

National and historic landmarks
We utilized the latest U.S. Census data to determine the percentage of adult residents who have served in the armed forces, with higher percentages indicating greater patriotism. We also considered the number of military bases and institutions, as they contribute to community integration and economic impact.
However, military service is just one aspect of patriotism. We also looked at voter turnout data from the Census to assess civic engagement.
Finally, the number of national and historic landmarks per state reflects both its historical significance and the opportunities residents have to engage with their state’s heritage.
