**Communications Apprentices'** are employees and have basic employee responsibilities. This level Apprentice will be given instruction and work experience installing basic communication equipment which involves using hand tools and power tools, a basic understanding of electrical blueprints, and knowledge of the NEC. Additionally, each Apprentice must make every effort to become a well-qualified technician. This requires registering for related instruction courses, attending regularly and being on time.
Responsibilities
**Responsible for but not limited to:**

Qualifications
**Requirements:**
+ High school diploma or GED are required with 0+ months experience
+ Must be 18 years of age
+ Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite and school.
+ Be willing to attend school in the evenings one or two nights a week for three (3) years.
+ This is a 40 hour per week position
+ Overtime work expected when needed
+ Potential of temporary travel may be involved.
**Abilities:**
+ The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
+ Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
+ Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
+ Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
+ Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
+ May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
+ Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

About the Position
The Stable Groom is responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the horses, carriages, and facilities within the carriage operation at Colonial Williamsburg. This role ensures the health and well-being of our historic rare breed horses while supporting the safe and efficient operation of our 10-carriage fleet. The Stable Groom works closely with the Lead Groom, Barn Manager, Coach Drivers, and other team members to maintain a historically accurate and functional equine program that enhances the museum's interpretive mission.
Essential Functions:
Horse Care & Management:
Provide daily feeding, watering, and turnout for a herd of 25 horses, following established nutrition and health plans.
Groom, tack, and harness horses in preparation for carriage operations, ensuring safety and historical accuracy.
Monitor equine health, report concerns to the Barn Manager, and assist with veterinary and farrier visits.
Administer basic first aid and medication as directed.
Stable & Facility Maintenance:
Muck stalls, clean paddocks, and maintain cleanliness of the barn, tack room, and storage areas.
Maintain and clean tack, harnesses, and equipment, reporting any needed repairs.
Assist with routine carriage cleaning and maintenance to ensure a professional appearance.
Operational Support:
Assist Coach Drivers with horse handling and preparation before and after carriage tours.
Support team training efforts by handling and exercising horses as directed.
Engage with guests by answering questions about the horses, carriages, and stable operations.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols related to horse handling, carriage operations, and guest interaction.

Required and Preferred Education and Experience:
Required:

About the Position
Provide for the care of cattle, sheep and poultry. Demonstrates and interprets all aspects of livestock husbandry with an emphasis on animal movement practices in the 18th Century Virginia.
Founded in 1986, CW's Rare Breeds program helps promote genetic diversity in livestock that research shows thrived in 18th-century colonial British America. Horses, oxen, sheep, and fowl contribute to the living history museum in many of the same ways they would have contributed to the colonial capital: as workhorses and oxen pulling carts, wagons, and carriages; and providing wool, eggs, milk, and manure for trades throughout the city.
Essential Functions:
* Cares for the Livestock to insure their health and safety, including working with the Veterinary surgeon when necessary.
* Help with the breeding and birthing aspects of the livestock
* Gives interpretations on livestock husbandry in the 18th Century and the role of livestock in society. Demonstrates different skills involved such as milking cows, shearing sheep, sheep herding and ox driving throughout the Historic Area.
* Use oxen to move freight throughout the Historic Area, using both carts and wagons when needed. Use oxen for ticketed ox-cart rides, under Also assist other programs and shops with oxen, when required.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Ability to drive trucks and trailers. Apprentice Level 3 and higher must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license and have an acceptable driving record based on Colonial Williamsburg's criteria.
* Proven ability to work alone with livestock both safely and having initiative to handle unforeseen circumstances in dealing with livestock.
* Must possess good communication skills, and ability to work in a team.
* Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions, generally gained through high school education
* High school diploma or G.E.D.
* Must display a willingness and ability to lift 50 lbs., to bend, stoop and kneel to perform work, to work in costume, and work in all weather conditions.
* Ability and willingness to work flexible schedule and on call response to emergencies when needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; also to participate in special events as needed including nights, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN HVAC APPRENTICE / SERVICE TRAINEE
In this HVAC apprenticeship, you work directly with service technicians, service managers, installers, install managers, dispatchers, and other managers to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting goals and key performance objectives (KPOs). You assist technicians and installers with the repair, installation, and maintenance of ductwork, piping, wiring, and equipment on all our projects.
