POSITION SUMMARY The Phlebotomist Apprentice is a technical skill-based apprenticeship that provides phlebotomy students the ability to learn and develop on the job training for phlebotomy. Our phlebotomists represent the face of Sonora Quest Laboratories to patients who come for routine and health decision base laboratory work. This role collects quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing. This role assists teams in Patient Service Centers, Hospitals, or in doctor's offices to meet patient demand during peak hours of the day or when or where business needs dictate once the student has completed educational and didactic training for specimen collection. The Phlebotomist-Apprentice role has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood in a safe and accurate manner. The Phlebotomist Apprentice demonstrates behaviors based on Sonora Quest values, focusing on empathy, process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information. This position may also perform specified analytical testing as assigned. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Completes documents legibly and accurately per site protocol. Follows established methods and practices. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures. Uses appropriate documentation to record communications. Initiates computer generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Maintains acceptable specimen rejection rates and meets the departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined. 3.
