    We are currently offering a $1,500 sign-on bonus for Recon Assembly Technician new hires, payable after 90-days of employment. Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring Recon Assembly Technicians in our transmission shop in Salem, Virginia at our corporate headquarters for all shifts. The Recon Assembly Technician is responsible for performing repairs, reconditioning and servicing heavy equipment and components, including evaluating, diagnosing and repairing radiators, small engines, large engines, hydraulic systems and Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar transmissions, in a shop environment. Seeking candidates with previous experience with Caterpillar or related equipment industry experience, military equipment experience or completion of a diesel school program; Minimum of 3 years' experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing heavy equipment components; Experience with Caterpillar equipment preferred; High school diploma or GED required. Requirements for the Recon Assembly Technician position include: Must possess the ability to logically and effectively diagnose failures, including failure analysis. Must be familiar with standard soldering concepts, practices, and procedures. Must have good trouble shooting skills. Have strong mechanical aptitude. Must be able to complete repairs with little to no supervision. Must be able to occasionally operate heavy machinery. Must be able to work shifts as needed, including days, nights, and/or weekends to meet customer needs. Must be able to positively interact with supervisor and to understand problems and concerns relating to a repair. Requires good communication skills. Must be able to perform job in sometimes stressful situations due to circumstances and/or emergencies. Must be able to perform in situations requiring speed and deadlines. Must be self-directed, organized and be able to interact with coworkers and train new mechanics. Must be able to work as an integral part of a team. Must have an excellent driving record.
