Description: Under the general direction of the Director of Surgical Services, the Surgical Services Scheduling Specialist will schedule surgeries, perform patient tracking, input & maintain statistics for the Performance Improvement Program, perform other administrative department duties and assist in the smooth operation of the department in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards. Responsible for scheduling and coordinating surgeries and IV infusions. Will pre-register patients for surgery and IV infusions. Perform Pre-cert for procedures with insurance companies. Maintain the surgical services logbook. Maintain and report surgical services statistics. Complete the weekly flash report. Scan patient charts post-op. Perform patient tracking. Review charge capture review. Maintain and report PI data. Manage post-op call log and report findings. Answer the telephone promptly and courteously. Fax reports to physicians. Properly distribute reports. Notify department manager of any equipment or supply needs. Participate in continuing education. Notify the department manager or safety officer of any patient safety concerns, e.g. sanitation, equipment safety, chemical spills. Other duties as assigned, needed, requested, or required.
