The Sales and Use Tax Senior Consultant's primary responsibilities are to identify Sales and Use tax savings opportunities for multi-state clients and direct staff in day to-day operations. The incumbent will be meeting with clients and/or taxing authorities, preparing correspondence, researching issues, completing data reconciliations, making taxability decisions and preparing tax authority filings. Some travel required (up to 30%).
Duties and Responsibilities
* Reviews and finalizes staff's audit/refund tax decisions
* Reviews client data for tax savings opportunities
* Assists Manager in mentoring staff and managing staff workload
* Drafts filings, such as petitions for redetermination, refund claims, and various other administrative replies
* Responds to client inquiries and prepares documentation requests from state agencies
* Reconciles tax returns with client data
* Travels to client locations to gather and copy tax returns, invoices, purchase orders, and other documentation to use in audit/refund process
* Other duties as assigned

* Secondary review of tax decisions on invoices
* Completion of sales tax research for client issues in different states
* Staff time allocations on sales tax projects

* Manager will have final review of audit/refund schedules and other documents prepared by Senior Consultant

Education and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree required in Accounting/Finance
* At least two years of experience in Sales Tax Consulting positions
Knowledge and Skills
* Proficient in Access
* Demonstrates knowledge of basic tax research
* Experience in conducting tax audits and reverse tax audits
* Ability to analyze raw data to reconcile trial balances and sales and use tax returns
The compensation range for this role is $74,660 to $141,560. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location

The Sales and Use Tax Consultant's primary responsibilities are to identify Sales and Use tax savings opportunities for multi-state clients and direct staff in day to-day operations. The incumbent will be meeting with clients and/or taxing authorities, preparing correspondence, researching issues, completing data reconciliations, making taxability decisions and preparing tax authority filings.

What you will do:
Prepare sales & use tax forms and resolve outstanding tax issues for middle market and Fortune 500 clients and ensure they are in compliance with applicable state tax laws. This includes:
Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns for various jurisdictions for multiple clients
Perform research on relevant tax law
Interact and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
Analyze large amounts of client data
Maintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service lines and engagement/project teams
Develop and retain technical tax expertise
Proactively identify and communicate issues as they arise
Maintain a positive and "team player" attitude
Become familiar with and adhere to the firm's policies and procedures
Apply a working knowledge of various computer applications

Qualifications
Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or related math degree required
Minimum (1) one year experience in public accounting or industry completing and reconciling multi-state sales and use tax returns and performing research on taxability law preferred
Demonstrated skills in the areas of time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving
Strong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skills, initiative, adaptability
Microsoft Suite skills

The compensation range for this role is $63,200 to $119,820. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location

Job Description:
As a Senior Manager in the Energy Credit Syndications Group on the Development & Community Advisory team you will work closely with an experienced team of energy transaction and investor syndication specialists to help developer and investor clients develop energy projects and deploy capital, growing the Baker Tilly tax credit syndications practice.
This team member will coordinate all phases of engagement planning and administration for Baker Tilly's energy tax credit syndication practice. This includes assisting in the effective management of the practice's staff. Extensive knowledge and experience regarding asset funding within the solar energy industry is required to perform this job. The role requires an experienced professional with investment banking or financial advisory experience who can identify, collect, and integrate information from disparate sources, develop cogent advisory strategies, and communicate them effectively to clients. The work will be complex and varied, so independent judgment and discretion are required.
What you will do:
* Successfully engage new clients while maintaining established client relationships
* Pursue leads for new clients and successfully close the sale of new business
* Staff management and people development; supervising and coordinating activities of other team members
* Design and management of capital raising process; continued development and management of ongoing relationships with institutional funding parties focused on clean energy industry (transfer credit, tax equity, mezzanine, equity, etc.).
* Management of market clearing activity to obtain the most competitive terms for clients.
* Support and enhance internal operations, facilitating workflows ensuring optimal client experience
* Perform as an industry leader internally and externally, representing Baker Tilly and the clean energy finance profession through speaking engagements, internal and external assignments, and client interactions as well as through active participation in relevant professional and community organizations
* Work collaboratively with Baker Tilly advisory teams serving the clean energy industry to appropriately leverage competencies to serve client needs while growing the firm's presence in the clean energy and tax credit syndication industries.
* Project management including defining work programs and project plans, timelines and budgets
* Effective execution of special projects and all other duties as assigned
Successful candidates will meet the following requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in a specialized field such as finance, accounting, economics, engineering or a related field
* MBA or Master's degree in a related field preferred
* A minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience in the field of solar energy finance, with the demonstrated ability to negotiate and close numerous, large, complex transactions and syndication funds concurrently
* Experience structuring and deploying capital from institutional and high net worth investors
* Demonstrated leadership in the clean energy industry and/or the finance industry
* The highest levels of technical competence in transaction structures required to monetize tax credits and related tax benefits
* High level of ethics, teamwork, and commitment to excellence in work
* Proven effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills, and requisite computer software skills appropriate to the specific field
* Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
* A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects and transaction closings
* Attention to detail alongside commitment to quality and confidentiality
