Your Opportunity
The Geologist/Geological Engineer will perform tasks and project management assignments associated with subsurface explorations, geo-structural studies, pre-grouting assessment, remediation, and design and construction projects; sampling of bedrock, soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; preparing geotechnical/geologic exhibits; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable/report preparation.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Performing outdoor, all-season, on-site geotechnical and geological investigations as well as geotechnical related construction monitoring field tasks such as construction progress, condition verification, and instrumentation monitoring
- Conducting subsurface geotechnical and geologic investigations in connection with dams, tunnels, mining, building, infrastructure, and other development projects
- Performing field geologic explorations including soil and bedrock mapping
- Performing Quality Control (QC) on field borehole logs completed by co-workers (including the Q system and the RMR system, as requested) for collected soil and rock core samples
- Performing field hydraulic conductivity and infiltration testing and evaluations
- Preparing detailed field reports and geotechnical and geologic reports
- Providing geotechnical monitoring and using instrumentation to record vibrations, settlements, slope movements, water levels, and other critical geotechnical engineering data.
- Reducing and summarizing geohydrologic and geotechnical data and preparing plans for inclusion in interpretive reports for clients
- Performing geotechnical computer modeling of slope stability, groundwater dewatering predictions, groundwater flow
- Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training (including OSHA and MSHA required training) and follow health & safety policies and procedures.
- Documenting and preparing internal reports on the geotechnical and geologic aspects of construction projects.
- A willingness to travel is required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- P.G. or P.E Registration is required, PG preferred
- Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
- Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required), and demonstrates use and understanding of these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work. (OSHA 10, OSHA 30, MSHA 24 preferable)
- The successful candidate will demonstrate a diverse skill set in multiple geological/engineering sub-disciplines.

Significant percentage of time spent in field environment with prolonged standing or sitting (driving) and computer work, or combination of office and field.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

While Nashville, TN is the preferred location for this position, Chattanooga, TN or Knoxville, TN will also be considered.
Your Key Responsibilities
You will apply your knowledge of Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology to lead a variety of tasks including transportation planning, business development, systems engineering analyses, traffic analyses, traffic signal and ITS design, and systems integration support. You will carry out job functions within multidisciplinary teams of Transportation Engineering and ITS professionals and support direct interaction with clients within the context of project kickoff and progress meetings, design reviews, project production, delivery, support, and analysis. Major results expected include high-quality written, verbal and graphical deliverables in the form of operational concepts, technology reviews, designs and specifications. You will be responsible for managing project teams and maintaining strong team morale. You will perform work which involves the application of leading-edge information and communication technologies to ITS, transportation planning, engineering, and operations. Stantec has built strong client relationships and a history of delivering quality work, which you will be expected to carry forward and expand upon. This will include leading and delivering established and recently-won on-call contracts with state and municipal clients. It is expected that you will uphold engineering ethics and standards of conduct in this role.
The selected candidate will be expected to perform the following activities:
* Apply general Traffic and ITS planning and engineering principles to solve specific Traffic and ITS related problems.
* Lead the design and development or review of Traffic and ITS concepts, including requirements analysis, technology review and selection, development and communication of operational concepts, specifications development, and testing.
* Establish relationships with existing and target state and municipal clients to cultivate new project opportunities.
Develop or review preliminary concepts and/or specifications.
* Research feasibility of alternative approaches, technology capabilities, previous experiences with Traffic and ITS deployments, cost-benefits, and client/regulatory agency specifications.
* Write or review reports, participate in presentations, discuss concepts and deliverables with clients, and participate in quality-control checks.
* Assist in the testing, deployment, operation, support, and maintenance of ITS systems including software, devices, data, and other related technology.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
* Demonstrated ability to manage team members effectively, delegate assignments, and ensure timely completion of projects.
* Good technical writing, analytical and communications skills, including ability to present concepts verbally.
* Excellent client relationship management skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Access.
* The ability to bring established local client relationships to the role is preferred.
Education and Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree.
* Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Must be licensed in Tennessee or able to obtain license within 6 months.
* A minimum of 10 years of experience in Traffic-related or ITS-related subject matter, including design of Traffic Signals and ITS, with exposure to information and communication technologies, including fiber optic communication design, video systems engineering, traveler information, electronic payment, or traffic control systems preferred.
* Experience managing staff and handing out assignments. Experience interacting with clients and leading projects from beginning to completion.
* Experience in Signal Design, Signal System Timing, ITS Equipment Integration, Transportation Management Center (TMC) design and operations, All Electronic Toll (AET), High Occupancy Toll (HOT), and Open Road Tolling (ORT) projects preferred.
* Experience performing quality assurance, testing software applications, and technical document reviews.
* Experience with databases and/or database design or querying using SQL or a reporting software a plus.
* Experience with GIS appreciated.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. At CESO, the Project Manager is to plan, execute, and deliver projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. Leads and manages the full lifecycle of architecture and engineering projects from project initiation through closeout.
Serves as the primary client contact, managing relationships, expectations, and communications throughout the project.
Oversees project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery.
Coordinates multi-disciplinary project teams, ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and financial performance.
Develops and monitors project work plans, including task assignments and deliverables for internal teams and subconsultants.
Prepares contracts, change orders, fee proposals, and client billing.
Ensures compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, standards, and client requirements.
Proactively identifies project risks and develops mitigation strategies to address scope, schedule, and budget challenges.
Leads internal project meetings and client presentations; prepares progress reports and other project documentation.
Contributes to business development efforts, including proposal development and project interviews.
Responsible for billing, invoicing the project, and tracking/managing a client's accounts receivable in collaboration with the accounting department to ensure payment by contract terms
Supervising direct reports is a key responsibility of this job.

Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or related field, with a minimum of 4 years of experience directly managing projects in a design and construction related field is preferred;
Or 10 years related experience and/or training is required.
Professional Licensure (RA, PE, PS, RLA) is preferred.
PMP certification is preferred.
Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, Deltek, and Newforma.
