WHO WE ARE: El Segundo, incorporated in 1917, is home to approximately 17,000 residents and is known as a major aeronautical and industrial business center. The El Segundo Police Department is a full-service agency, providing the highest levels of crime prevention and quality service to a community that strongly supports its public safety members. Under close supervision, incumbents in this non-sworn, entry-level position complete a formal, comprehensive California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified Basic Academy training program of about 26-weeks duration and perform other related work as required. Upon successful completion of the mandatory policy academy, trainees may be elevated to the rank of sworn Police Officer at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma, pass the General Education Development test indicating high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
Candidates who have successfully completed a full-time California P.O.S.T Certified Basic Police Academy or currently attending an Academy (with a ranking within the top 25 percentile of their class) may be allowed to substitute their academy training in lieu of having to attend the City's mandatory academy. The decision is at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police
Licensing/Certification Requirements: Must possess a valid California Class "C" Driver's License.
Age: Must be a minimum of 20 ½ years of age at the time of the written test.
Special Requirements:
* Must be of proportional height to weight, be physically able to handle the rigorous duties of police work;
* Possess normal hearing and color perception, minimum vision of 20/100 in each eye, correctable to 20/20;

This position will also supervise and support volunteers doing habitat restoration and plant propagation work in the Madrona Marsh Preserve. The Senior Program Specialist (Madrona Marsh) will also supervise habitat restoration volunteer events at other locations in the City of Torrance, including the Henrietta Basin, the Seaside Heroes Park, the 236th and Arlington parklet, and more. This position will interface with two volunteer organizations: the Friends of Madrona Marsh and the South Bay Parkland Conservancy, both of which are heavily involved in restoration activities in Torrance. The Senior Program Specialist (Madrona Marsh) will help select work tasks for these volunteer events in consultation with the Madrona Marsh manager. They will transport tools and supplies to and from the worksites using City vehicles. They will collect the appropriate paperwork from volunteers for the events and ensure that it has been completed fully and accurately.

The Department

The Division

The General Advice Division
The General Advice Division provides a broad range of general legal advice and services. It drafts and defends local laws as required by the City Council and City departments. The Position
Under direction from the Theater Technical Director, the Stage Manager acts as Stage Supervisor, and as a point of contact for rental clients during rental events. This position delegates and oversees duties of Theater Technicians, and assumes responsibility for set-up, operation, and strike of all staging and related technical equipment to complete a successful operation of rental events.

Bachelor's degree in administration of justice, criminology, public or business administration, political science, or closely related field. * Receive and maintain certification on a wide range of weapon types from a variety of weapons manufacturers.
* Inspect, maintain, and repair all department-owned weapons authorized for use including pistols, rifles, and shotguns; assist officers with information and routine repairs and issues with their weapons; maintain complete inventory of weapons and ammunition; maintain individual records on each weapon including date of acquisition, officer assigned, and inspections.
* Conduct various weapons inspections and regular firearms and ammunition inventories and audits.
* Coordinate the safe handling and removal of hazardous materials from the shooting range.
* Maintain a variety of records required for the safe and efficient operation of the facility, e.g. range maintenance and activities, training, individual officer qualifications, shooting scores, proficiency tests, weapons safety, maintenance, and inspection and other related information. Prepare reports as needed.
* Advise Police Department staff on weapon-related matters.
* Participate in community events; provide firearm safety courses to community members.
* May testify in court regarding firearm training provided to Police personnel.
* Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures.
