The Lead Structural Engineer Position
The Lead Structural Engineer role is a diversified role that provides the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the steel construction industry, along with the technical specialization of erection engineering. The Lead Structural Engineer works closely with the Engineering Manager, the Pre-Construction Team, the Project Management Team, and the Project Field Team to support the safe and efficient erection of structural steel.
While this position will focus primarily on the analysis of structures during erection to maintain/provide stability during all stages of erection, the Lead Structural Engineer has the opportunity to perform other construction engineering tasks. These additional tasks could include the design of temporary shoring, lifting beams, lifting lugs, erection aids, etc. Additionally, the Lead Structural Engineer may also interact with the estimating team to review projects at bid time for general review of building stability. Occasional travel to project sites is a part of the position, as is attendance at industry events and trade shows.
Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the Lead Structural Engineer
Bachelor's degree in civilengineering, with a Structural focus
7+ years of work experience in the engineering industry, preferably in the structural steel industry
Proficient with design and analysis of structural steel buildings
Proficient with steel design codes and specifications. Good understanding of ASCE7/ASCE37
Experience with Structural Steel Erection Engineering and Rigging Engineering is preferred
Experience with RISA 3D, AutoCAD, and Revit. Exposure to Tekla is a plus
Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation

The Road Commission for Oakland County is the largest county road agency in the state. To provide safe travel throughout the county, we require talented CivilEngineers in the following areas of speciality:

Familiarity with ProjectSight, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
Prior construction-related experience (internship or full-time) valued
Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites as required

Civil engineer job in Birmingham, MI
The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of CivilEngineer. Under the supervision of the City Engineer, duties will include residential site plan review, commercial and residential Certificate of Occupancy inspections, inspections of sidewalks and drive approaches. This position requires substantial contact with other city departments and members of the public, including residents, builders, architects, and others.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list is not to be treated as all inclusive.
Monitors the management and maintenance of city construction.
Coordinates field construction layout, project involvement coordination, and quality assurance for public works projects.
Coordinates the Engineering Department field activities with other City departments and public utilities.
Conducts soil erosion and sedimentation control inspections.
Additional related responsibilities as assigned.
NECESSARY SKILLS:
Time management
Ability to work independently under general policy direction
Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels
Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate
Ability to work with construction inspection related software, such as FieldManager, for daily reporting.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
S., or equivalent in CivilEngineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field.
E. not required however, the eligibility to obtain a P.E. within 3 years is preferred if applicant has a B.S. in an engineering field.
A minimum of 1-year experience in CivilEngineering and/or Public Works Inspection, including installation of sewer, water main, and street paving projects.
Knowledge of streets, sidewalks, sewer and water construction, excavation and grading, and soils.
Knowledge of engineering support services, including GIS, computerized mapping is a plus.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
Must be able to sit for long periods of time
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions
Monday through Friday work schedule, with potential Saturday shifts as necessary
