Job Description
A Day in the Life of a Medical Lab Scientist:
Performs laboratory testing, including waived, moderate and high complexity, complying with applicable regulations of organizations governing laboratories and according to established procedures to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Utilizes professional judgment and critical thinking skills to develop new procedures or methods, educate others and improve systems. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to provide quality patient care and exceptional customer service. This position specifically would work at our Cancer Center location, working closely with physicians and patients.

What You Will Be doing:
Organizes and performs laboratory testing in lab areas that are assigned and in which employee is determined competent. Ensures that testing is in compliance with applicable laboratory governing bodies.
Uses critical thinking skills and professional judgment to evaluate test results, troubleshoot complex lab problems and provide clinical interpretations and expertise to other healthcare staff.
Assures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, proper daily documentation and collection and analysis of appropriate samples.
Performs routine function checks and maintenance on laboratory analyzers, troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation.
Assists in the training of personnel in clinical procedures, the use and operation of instrumentation, quality control procedures, record keeping, troubleshooting of instrumentation, and communication of normal and abnormal patient data in timely manner.
Utilizes Laboratory Information System (LIS) and network appropriately and efficiently.
Completes a minimum of ten continuing education contact hours per year or 20 contact hours per two years.

OR, new graduate of an MLS program (6 months or less prior to hire), must be board eligible and obtain MLS certification through ASCP or AMT within 6 months of start date

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Crook County Medical Services District is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team! This position will report to the Medical Laboratory Supervisor and will support both the hospital and clinics.
Essential Functions:
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, test analysis, reporting and record keeping.
Adhere to laboratory quality control standards and policies, including documentation of all quality control values and activities.
Perform instrument calibration/recalibration as indicated by test and/or instrument specification with appropriate documentation.
Perform analyzer maintenance with appropriate documentation as indicated by analyzer specification.
Maintains competency in all assigned work areas of testing in the laboratory and perform proficiency testing as required to a minimal level of 80%.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the Laboratory Supervisor.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Participate in the Laboratory Quality Improvement Program for CCMSD in such a manner as to improve the quality of care rendered to clients served by CCMSD.
Education:
Must possess an Associates of Science in Medical Technology, Applied Science or Equivalent.
Must possess or obtain ASCP registry or equivalent as MLT.
Experience:
Experience involving the use of clinical information programs preferred.
Experience with varied laboratory instrumentation preferred.
Experience with varied phlebotomy skills preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent patient care skills, professional and discrete manner at all times.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work as a team player or independently.
Ability to work with and serve a variety of personalities in a calm professional manner.
Ability to work under stress of responding to critical draw requests in a trauma, within a short response time.

SUMMARY
The Technician, Laboratory Minerals under general supervision performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development by performing the following duties.
Performs routine laboratory testing, following relevant company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and methods.
Prepares a representative subsample from client sample that meets specific requirements using defined methods (Dry, Crush, Pulverize, Pressure Filter, Mix, Riffle Split, etc.).
Weighs and digest samples for analysis, using relevant equipment.
May completes and maintain laboratory reports.
Receives, sorts and logs client samples into the data base, and prepares samples' labels.

Prepares monthly composites.
May performs daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks on equipment.

Ensures all equipment and containers are organized and cleaned before and after use.
Ensures all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn as required.
