Works with other Supervisors in the Inventory, Packing, and Dispensing departments to resolve problems relating to department processes.
Analyzes distribution and supports pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Assists Pharmacists in medication preparation and dispensing directly or through program/process development.
Complies with all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), federal, state, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs escalated or more complex work of a similar nature, supervises a group of support and technical associates, and coordinates and provides day-to-day oversight to associates.
Ensures consistency in execution across team.
Holds team members accountable for following established policies. This includes holding monthly 1x1 sessions with each direct report and maintaining staffing needs.

Basic Qualifications

Job Summary:
The St. Elizabeth Healthcare Ambulatory ClinicalPharmacist is responsible for direct patient care via pharmacist/practitioner collaborative care agreements for disease states in dermatology, endocrinology, hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease, HIV, HIV PrEP, rheumatology, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, pulmonology, neurology, and more. The desirable candidate for this position has Board Certification in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, a PGY2 pharmacy residency in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, or a minimum of three years of experience in a similar setting.
The Outpatient Pharmacist provides medications and counseling upon presentation of a prescription prescribed by a registered healthcare practitioner to the patients, ensuring accuracy and safety while monitoring for any intervention that might be needed. The pharmacist also counsels and recommends over the counter products to our patients assuring there are no pharmacologic or physiologic contraindications. In addition, they maintain sound accounting practices and oversee the process in the outpatient pharmacy. The Outpatient Pharmacist must be able to provide top notch customer service to the customers while being an educational resource for them. Directs medication therapy within the bounds defined by Collaborative Care agreements and protocols. Contacts prescribers as needed with therapeutic alternatives to optimize the patient's care. Compounds and Dispenses Pharmaceuticals: Insures timely dispensing of appropriate quantities of the correct medication. Supervises compounding according to USP standards, verification of ingredient compatibility, verification of content, and verification of appropriate labeling including expiration dating. Checks all medication prior to final dispensing for direct patient administration, for distribution via automated dispensing cabinets and for floorstock dispensing. Uses barcode technology when possible to insure accurate dispensing. Supervises the repackaging of medication including verification and documentation of lot numbers, expiration dates, and the names of individuals involved in the process.
Supervises and Directs Interns and Technicians: Provides active direct supervision and mentoring of Interns and Technicians as guided by ICARE values. This includes monitoring timely completion of tasks, redirection of staff to meet patient needs and encouraging use of the AIDET model in interaction with staff, patients and visitors. Reports behavior not responsive to direct intervention to the leadership team.
Medication Use Safety Initiatives: Detects and reports in a timely manner variances in dispensing on internal variance report forms or in Midas as is appropriate. Identifies opportunities and participates in departmental efforts to increase the safe use of medications (e.g. clear labeling, new SALA medications and Epic improvements / corrections). Identifies and reports suspected adverse drug reactions in Midas.
Controlled Substance Accountability: Participates in and supervises the receipt, dispensing and distribution of controlled substances through the use of Pyxis C-II Safe, Pyxis Medstation 4000, internal perpetual inventories, Pyxis Anesthesia Stations, Anesthesia Boxes and anesthesia waste logs.
