JOB SUMMARY
The Metadata & Discovery Librarian supports student success and lifelong learning by ensuring library resources are accurately described, easily discoverable, and consistently accessible. This position is responsible for creating and enhancing metadata, managing discovery services, and maintaining library systems that enable seamless access to both physical and digital collections.
The librarian contributes to policy development, provides reference and circulation support, and helps ensure smooth daily operations in the Library Director's absence.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS
Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Library and Information Studies (MLIS), Information Science (MSIS), Library Science (MLS), or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
Minimum one (1) year of experience in cataloging, metadata, library systems, or related technical services work. A combination of relevant coursework, internships, graduate assistantships, or supervised field experience may count toward this requirement.
An additional two (2) years of experience in any combination of the following: cataloging, metadata, library systems, technical support, library administration, access services, information literacy instruction, or research assistance.
Demonstrated knowledge of national cataloging and metadata standards.
Knowledge of and experience with a cloud-based library services platform.
Knowledge of HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is valued.
Knowledge of web accessibility and ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliance standards is valued.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
METADATA CREATION & CATALOGING (35%)
Improve existing records through metadata enhancement and quality control projects.
Support long-term resource discoverability by maintaining accurate and consistent metadata.
Perform original and copy cataloging for physical and electronic materials in multiple formats.
Ensure compliance with national and local metadata standards, including MARC (Machine-Readable Cataloging), RDA (Resource Description and Access), AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules), DCRM (Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials), NACO (Name Authority Cooperative Program), LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings), and LCC (Library of Congress Classification).
LIBRARY SYSTEMS AND DISCOVERY SERVICES (25%)
Administer and configure Alma and Primo to support institutional needs, optimize workflows, implement enhancements, and coordinate system updates.
Oversee metadata display, indexing, and discovery layer optimization to improve user access and search functionality.
Maintain LibApps and other library software; coordinate updates and provide staff training on new features.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database access, authentication, and catalog functionality.
Collaborate with IT (Information Technology) staff and vendors to support reliable on-campus and remote access to electronic resources.
ACCESS SERVICES (20%)
Deliver circulation and user support services, including check-in/out, account assistance, and technical troubleshooting.
Create a welcoming environment by helping users navigate library systems, collections, and services.
Provide first-tier research and reference assistance at the service desk and through online channels.
Provide course-integrated research support upon request, including the development of online learning objects, research guides, and instructional tutorials.
COLLECTIONMANAGEMENT (15%)
Develop and maintain procedures for managing the print collection.
Support collection evaluation and maintenance efforts, including deselection, inventory, and usage analysis.
Maintain accurate records of missing and lost materials and coordinate with faculty for collection input.
Train and supervise student workers and library staff assisting with stacks maintenance tasks.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (5%)
Serve on college committees.
Participate in professional development activities.
Promote library resources and services.
Assist the Library Director with collection statistics and reporting.
Provide support for government documents workflows, including inventory updates, routine maintenance of the collection, and compliance with federal depository regulations.

JOB LOCATION
This role is an on-site position primarily located on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, TN. Travel is required within the college's five-county service area including travel for statewide meetings, national conferences, etc.

Job Overview
This position is a member of the University of Cincinnati Libraries Research & Data Services Group, which is focused on providing valuable research data services to the UC research community. This position will play a crucial role in advancing research and scholarship at the University of Cincinnati through the development and execution of a multi-disciplinary suite of services centered on research reproducibility, data literacy, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and data visualization. The successful candidate will offer support for faculty, students, and staff in the form of in-depth consultations, workshops, courses, and other targeted outreach, teaching, and development initiatives. The individual in this position will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and researchers throughout the research lifecycle. This is a 12-month full time tenure-track library faculty position.
Essential Functions
* Leads library services related to research data management, data analytics, AI in research, and other tools for quantitative data analysis and visualization.
* Performs instruction and consultations related to data management planning, analysis, visualization, and AI-related research tools and assists research community with identifying meaningful insights from data and metadata sources
* Designs and delivers workshops and consultations on the use of AI in research as well as topics such as data-driven automation and algorithmic bias
* Promotes and communicates best practices for ethical and reproducible data creation, and responsible use of generative AI, specifically in research and scholarship production, to members of the University of Cincinnati research community
* Stays abreast with developments and trends in data services, data visualization, and data analysis, and effectively communicate their implications to library and campus stakeholders
* Participates in committees, task forces, and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the position, and in support of UC Libraries' broader programs and priorities.
Required Education

Loss Accounting
Maintain loss and loss adjustment expense reserve calculations based on actuarial models and historical claim data and analyze such calculations to ensure our reserve position is accurately presented in the financials.
Assist in the preparation of standard monthly reports and ad-hoc analyses of the loss ratio for senior management.
Collaborate with claims adjusters, underwriters, actuaries and other finance personnel to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records and claims data.
Support the department by providing complete and accurate accounting information such as footnote schedules, regulatory reports and other key management reports.
Reinsurance Accounting
Perform technical accounting duties, such as the recording of premiums and claims transactions, related to month and quarter-end close activities.
Reconcile reinsurance balances with the respective participants on various treaties and facultative reinsurance placements.
Prepare reinsurance billings and payments for premiums, commissions and claims, working closely with our reinsurance brokers and reinsurers on various treaties and facultative reinsurance placements. Monitor and assist with resolving aged reinsurance receivables.
Complete semi-annual financial statements for each of our alternative risk transfer rental captive products, which are shared with product management and insureds.
Validate and analyze reinsurance system data, including recalculations of reinsurance applied to large claims.
General and Statutory Accounting
Prepare schedules to support the monthly consolidated financial statements.
Assist with prepaid assets, fixed assets, other assets, and other liabilities, including recording applicable journal entries and account reconciliations.
Learn the statutory reporting process and support the preparation of the quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and filings.
Help facilitate the filing of sales and use tax, and excise tax returns.
Financial Planning and Analysis
Engage in the annual planning and quarterly forecasting processes, including preparing analysis and schedules, proofreading documents for accuracy, and collaborating with other departments to collect information and data.
Conduct a monthly analysis of premium and expense data to support the reporting of financial statement fluctuations and the identification of key drivers of operating results to management.
Assist in the preparation of additional analysis requested by management for use in modeling, presentations, meetings, and other monthly or quarterly reports.
Assist with cash flow management by analyzing daily cash positions and forecasting future cash flows, ensuring sufficient operating liquidity.

The Reference Librarian assists in accomplishing this mission by providing reference and readers' advisory services to all patrons and maintaining and/or cataloging an assigned area of the library collection.
POSITION DUTIES: 65% Public Service
* Answers reference questions and locates library materials for patrons
* Arranges interlibrary loans and reserves
* Assists patrons in using library equipment
* Recommends materials to patrons
* Will be required to work public service points as assigned 20% Collection Development
* Monitors budget for assigned areas
* Displays and promotes library material
* Examines material and database records for errors
* Maintains assigned areas of adult collection
* Maintains knowledge of available materials and monitors patron reading preferences
* Prepares original cataloging for inputting by CPL, as assigned
* Reads reviews of library material regularly
* Selects and maintains collections of print and non-print material
* Selects and requests purchase of materials according to requests and trends
* Verifies and assigns call numbers, to new materials without CIP or OCLC call numbers as assigned
* Works with Technology department to develop website content 10% Programming
* Conducts library tours
* Prepares and conducts programs for adults and provides instruction individually or to groups
* Prepares annotated bibliographies, booklists and handouts 5% Miscellaneous
* Alerts supervisor to problems encountered in work routines
* Attends meetings and serves on internal and external committees
* Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training sessions
* Oversees the department in the absence of the Adult Services Manager and serves as Senior-In-Charge
* Participates in the Strategic Planning process
* Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and/or Experience * Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited school Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
* Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to maintain accurate records
* Ability to identify future departmental needs and develop plans to meet them
* Ability to prepare and conduct programs
* Ability to prioritize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
* Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with and work with patrons and staff in a personable and professional manner.
* Ability to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds for the purpose of providing professional service.

* Knowledge of a wide range of books and authors
* Knowledge of CLEVNET system*, bibliographic databases, Dewey Decimal Classification System
* Knowledge of the American Library Association Bill of Rights*
* Knowledge of Core Competencies required for position*
* Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements*
* Knowledge of current interests and popular culture
* Knowledge of library services, policies and procedures*
* Knowledge of materials processing*, cataloging and classification
* Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
* Proficient with print and online resources; including searching skills, email, websites, databases and online operating systems*
* Understanding of patron confidentiality requirements and ethics responsibilities under Ohio law*
*May be acquired after hire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires light physical effort including very frequent standing, walking and lifting of materials. Requires the ability to operate business office and library equipment; the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set up and maintain work files; lift, retrieve and provide materials to patrons in a timely manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work performed in good working conditions - occasionally subjected to poor physical or environmental conditions and/or occasional health and safety hazards. There is daily use of a computer. Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and requires periodic participation and attendance at library events and meetings.
