Key Responsibilities

Maintain all engineering documentation in Autodesk Vault and actively participate in Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes.
Design parts and develop practical solutions to unique project challenges.
Manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize deliverables to meet deadlines.
Experience
3+ years of experience in electrical controls design and project implementation.
Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI-based control systems design and programming.
Familiarity with configuration and commissioning of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
Knowledge of UL 508A standards (preferred).
Experience with process and instrumentation hardware implementation.
Prior exposure to water or wastewater treatment equipment (preferred).
Panel building, testing, and troubleshooting experience (a plus).

The Automation & Controls Engineer supports TruStile's manufacturing operations by maintaining,
programming, and optimizing control systems and automation infrastructure. This includes PLC/HMI
programming, troubleshooting machine-level controls, and collaborating on new automation initiatives. The
role acts as a technical escalation point for controls and electrical issues and plays a key role in improving safety,
reducing downtime, and modernizing processes across the plant.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial automation systems including Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley,
and other PLC platforms.
Configure and support HMI systems used in production equipment interfaces.
Troubleshoot and modify systems involving VFDs, sensors, encoders, relays, motor starters, and
electrical panels (up to 480V 3-phase).
Support and improve safety systems such as light curtains, area scanners, and interlocks to ensure
compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and IT teams to deliver
automation and controls solutions aligned with operational priorities.
Act as a subject matter expert and escalation point for plant controls issues and electrical downtime.
Maintain a centralized repository of backup programs for PLCs and HMIs; document changes
thoroughly.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by implementing automation-based solutions that
increase uptime, quality, or efficiency.
Provide technical support for installation and commissioning of new equipment or automation
upgrades, for various locations including Denver, CO and Northwood, IA.
Develop and maintain training materials for electrical and controls development and assist in
onboarding or mentoring of junior technicians.
Adhere to all plant safety policies and participate in safety improvement efforts related to controls and automation.
Requirements
SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
3+ years of hands-on experience in automation, controls, or electrical systems within a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of PLC logic and troubleshooting (Beckhoff preferred; Allen-Bradley a plus).
Experience reading and modifying electrical schematics, ladder logic, and panel layouts.
Familiarity with configuring or troubleshooting automation hardware such as Light curtains, Area scanners, Encoders and sensors, and HMIs and touchscreens

What You'll Be Working On:
Project Planning & Execution Support: Support development and execution of comprehensive project plans, including technical design, equipment and material specification ensuring budget and schedule alignment..
Contribute to regular project status meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Electrical System Design & Engineering: Contribute to the design and specification of electrical systems for Power systems projects, including but not limited to power generation equipment , transformers, low, medium and high voltage cable and wiring.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations.
Develop and review technical documentation, drawings, and specifications.
Procurement & Installation Oversight: Manage the procurement of electrical equipment from vendors.
Oversee the installation and commissioning of electrical systems at field locations, both domestically and internationally.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Industry Experience: Proven experience in industrial environments, with a preference for experience in power generation and distribution.
Oil & Gas Experience: Experience in the oil and gas sector is highly advantageous.
Technical Expertise: Electrical Engineering Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including power systems, control systems, and electrical safety standards.
Equipment Expertise: Experience with electrical equipment design, procurement, and installation.
Industry Standards: Familiarity with relevant industry codes and regulations (e.g., NEC).
Team Participation: Proven ability to be a contributing member in a high performing team
Analytical & Organizational Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Essential Responsibilities:
· The types of exciters being replaced include potential source, bus fed, brushless, DC rotating, and partial / full compound.
· The replacement EX2100e excitation system sizes range from 35A voltage regulators to 8000A full static multi-bridges.
· Strong technical management and customer communication skills are essential. A strong understanding of power electronics and generator applications are essential.
· The Lead Engineer/Technologist will be responsible for providing technical support to sales and to own the technical execution of the system engineering, hardware generation, and software generation from order hand-off until the completion of commissioning. This includes providing technical support to the commissioning team.
· This is a global business with regional engineering teams supporting the factory based team.
· In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and interfacing with the regional engineering resources on a daily basis to coordinate gathering of field data, support phone meetings with customers, and phone support during commissioning.
In addition you will:
· Provide technical direction to less experienced engineers within the global team
· Collaborate with product development and sustainment engineers for continuous improvement
· Provide direct support for customer issue resolution and critical technical support
· Participate in internal and customer meetings (usually via phone) as the technical owner / leader
· Review projects, identify technical risks, and execute risk remediation plans
· Develop excitation and HMI requisition software including communication interfaces
