Responsibilities
Imagine a day where you're designing the backbone of the power grid-drafting substation layouts, running protection and grounding analyses, and fine-tuning relay settings that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities-safely, reliably, and sustainably.
Substation Design & Drafting: Develop electric substation drawings, including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure drawings
Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform substation design calculations and analysis such as ground grid analysis and design, lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill. Perform analysis for protective relaying settings (e.g. short circuit, coordination and protection) and PT and CT sizing determinations (e.g. CT saturation, PT and CT ratio)
Protection & Control: Develop relay settings for various protective features with the aide of other departments and external vendor relay application engineers
Technical Documentation & Specifications: Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopes
Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices
Field Support: Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
Minimum of 6 years of experience in Substation engineering, with a primary focus on executing protection and control projects
Non-senior roles will be considered with 3+ years of experience
Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic
Basic understanding of SCADA design
Experience with SEL AcSELerator, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
Strong familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards
Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE
Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings
Preferred Qualifications / Skills
Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment
500kV substation engineering experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license, with active NCEES record for reciprocity

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Transmission and Substation Engineering Manager, Assistant Director of Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Engineering. Oversees the complete protection and control network to internal and external standards. The position is responsible for reviewing settings, providing guidance and direction in P&C design and substation construction standards, and coordinating with supporting functions such as the Electric Utility's Project Management Office (PMO), Materials Management, and the City's Procurement Department. This role will also include duties outside of the typical P&C engineer that include but are not limited to physical substation design review, SCADA implementation and updates, remote terminal programming (RTU), procurement of equipment, maintenance oversight of substations and their equipment, and testing of equipment in support of the project's infrastructure objectives including

+ Develop design details for electrical power distribution systems (480V level), lighting systems, and control systems for major industrial facilities using recognized industry standards and specifications.
+ Perform system calculations and studies for electrical power systems, including load flows, voltage drops, and short circuit/coordination studies using electrical analytical software such as E-Tap or SKM Tools.
+ Coordinate with CAD Drafters to create new or modify existing drawings.
+ Perform field investigation and condition assessment of electrical power distribution and control equipment.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
+ 3+ years of design and engineering experience in building projects, including electrical power distribution in industrial or complex commercial projects.
+ Proficiency in electrical design, control equipment, and condition assessment.
+ Experience with medium and low voltage systems, lighting, grounding, municipal systems, load flow, voltage drop, and short circuit analysis.
+ Proficient in using E-Tap and SKM Tools for power distribution and control system analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Working knowledge of standards and codes related to electrical distribution and control systems.
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel software.
+ Preliminary knowledge of instrumentation devices (level/pressure/temp/flow) is preferred.
+ Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
+ Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
Our work environment is casual and informal, valuing great people and providing them the freedom to complete their jobs while offering any necessary support. The company is flexible with hours for production positions. The Ft. Lauderdale office has 6 employees, and you must be in the office four days a week, with the option to work from home on Fridays. You will be required to attend meetings in the Tri-County Area, potentially once or twice a month in person.
